A nearby star explodes, sending fragments hurdling towards other worlds. Your crew needs to initiate rapid response procedures. Your ship can evacuate all the people and then study the stellar core fragments that are hurdling toward the planets.

    Scenario #2

A nearby world is dieing from a plague that was released in the planet by a transport ship. Your crew has to find a cure or innoculant before it is too late.

Just my two cents. Not worth much in any other nation.

Aslan, someone else had the exact same question a little while back (it might have been Matt, I can't recall). At any rate, I bet a search for starbase adventures will come up with something.

And if you need ideas for a starbase-based campaign, I point you toward the seven seasons of Deep Space Nine.

Ineti, you are right it was Matt

and only one person replied to him.

So I thought maybe if we tried again we might get some more answers

Also you forgot about 5 seasons of Babylon 5

A few seasons of Space 1999 might also be good inspiration too

    Scenario #3

A local prisoner has escaped from jail and has let loose a whole slew of prisoners that are mad at a local government. The prisoners have rebelled against the government and the situation has gotten out of hand. Starfleet is needed and must helpthe local government quickly before the cities are destroyed.

    Scenario #4

A local star is collapsing in upon itself, causing a black hole. The players need to study the phenmomena to make accurate observations for the Starfleet Sciences.

    Scenario #5

A local nebula is left unexplored by Starfleet. The players have to map out the Nebula. There are several different options here. Their could be cloaked ships hiding in the Nebula ready to attack, or they Electrically charged Nebula could damage a critical system leaving the players to fix the problem. Or combine the Cloaked enemies and the electrically charged nebula.

    Mission Ideas

    Evil twisted Plot Idea #1
One or more important people are coming to the station in order to survey the established peace and/or disarmament in the wake of the Dominion war. Unfortunately, there are those who want them dead, and have hired assassins to make them so. So far, station security has caught at two murder attempts before they took place (the lifesupport systems were modified to introduce a poison gas into the VIP's quarters). A pattern scrambler was found in the primary transporter buffer, keyed to disrupt the VIP's patterns. Both are highly sophisticated attempts at murder- who's behind them, and why?

    Evil twisted Plot Idea #2
The station's EPS systems are getting worn and the Cardassians are refusing to provide new ones. A supply can be found at a nearby starship graveyard. A slightly less-than-reputable trader has offered to smuggle the PCs across the border and help retrieve the desperately needed parts.
Once the party is under-way, a strange signal is detected following the decrepit freighter. Is it a cloaking device or just a sensor ghost?
At the starship graveyard, the PCs determine that a third party is also scavenging the wrecks, including some highly dangerous military hardware? Who ya gonna call? Who ya gonna tell? What ya gonna do?

    Evil twisted Plot Idea #3
An infamous Cardassian war criminal, wanted for horrendous murders and nigh-legendary degrees of brutality, is found to be living the life of luxury on a nearby world. UNfortunately, this world has no extradition treaty and is paying the war criminal beau-coup bucks to advise their military on re-armament and training. In short, they ain't gonna give him up. Star Fleet decides that the PCs should discretely retrieve the man, or ensure that he never again poses a threat to the galaxy at large.

    Evil twisted Plot Idea #4
Minding their own business on a bright, sunny, day on the Promenade, the PCs are tasked with aiding a ship in distress in a nearby solar system. As they begin going hours out of their way to help the straggler, the PCs detect a suspicious freighter sculking about just at the edge of sensor range. Do they check up on the freighter (which just happens to be carrying outlawed weaponry) or continue on with the rescue mission to the decoy?

    Evil twisted Plot Idea #5
A powerful psionic alien has borded the PCs station under guise of diplomatic credentials from a respected, neutral, third party world. Claiming to be the prophet Qui Gonn, he's abusing his psioinc powers and either forcibly converting people to his religion or cheating innocent salvage dealers out of their tow-headed annoying little helpers. Oops, sorry- wrong universe.
In any event, the alien is a sham and a fraud, and is assaulting people and breaking things. How do the PCs handle this without getting into a shooting war?

More later- I've got a sermon to finish

    Another One

The players get to witness something bever seen before. A white hole. The white spits everything out, light rays. The Light rays are what make it white. SInce all of the light is reflected. This could also be a natural antimatter mine. When the matter is condensed to a point in the black hole, the protons inverse charges and become anti-protons. Since anti-protons are the basic building blocks of anti-matter. This maybe a fountain of anti-matter, but the explosions that are occurring when matter and anti-matter meet, It causes tears in the fabric of subspace, which could lead to the Fluidic Universe, or the ship being stranded on nothing but impulse engines.

Sorry for all the posts....but there is another.

Your starbase plays center stage to a JAG hearing. The officer in question would stand trial and the PC's, being the high ranking officers, are the main members in the court. The person standing trial could be an NPC or PC for this. It would be nice to have everything filter out for a session or two using a JAG hearing as a mission. And great roleplaying opportunities.

    Another Idea

    Evil twisted Plot Idea #6

Because of their trusting natures, the PCs and their starbase are imposed upon to warehouse (just for a little while, mind you) a substance or collection of substances which are rare, exotic, alien, and will eat the flesh off your bones before your brain realizes you're dead. It also interferes with the stations power systems and makes Julianne fries.

Someone is trying to: A) steal it, B) destroy it, C) release it into the ventilation systems, or D) research means of turning it into something relatively harmless and ultimately useful.

    here we go again

    Evil twisted Plot Idea #7

Several days ago, the Federation merchant ship Caruso reported detecting a derelict freighter at the outer fringes of the PC Starbase's area of responsibility. Locking on tractors, the Caruso was bringing the derelict in.
Now, the Caruso has appeared at the edge of the station's sensors and is inbound at full impulse. Sensors indicate no life-signs aboard, and the ship won't answer hails. The PCs must stop the Caruso and her tow and determine the fate of the two crews before it befalls the station.

    Evil twisted Plot Idea #7

During their investigation, the PCs determine that the Caruso was hauling highly exotic a/o illegal contraband. Now the Caruso's owners are demanding return of the ship and her materials (without specifically mentioning the contraband). They also intimate that the ship was on a highly classified mission for Star Fleet Intelligence. If the PCs ever want to make Admiral, they won't make waves. Just when the PCs start rocking the boat, Admiral Tillit (Star Fleet Intelligence) calls up, noting that their cooperation has been noted, thank you very much, now release the (*%^(*^% ship!

    Talking A Total B5 Rip-Off

The once Cardassian occupied station was in an area of space of little strategic value during the D.W. and left to deteriate (along with its out of favor gul). [This allows the uh oh what's the problem with the station this week sessions.]

The shambles of a Cardassian government has asked the Federation to assume control of the station and local space (much as they did in DS9) to control the local rise in pirate and black market activities. [Allowing your occasional shoot-em-outs with the bad guys.]

Having just suffered through the D.W. the Federation does not want to expend the resources needed (look what they had to do for DS9). They suggest a joint occupancy by all the recent allies who fought against the Dominion. Ambassadors of each species are posted to the station and act as the overall government of said station: including the last Cardassian gul who is resentful, the Federation envoy, the Klingon who sees the duty as a waste of time, the Romulan who just hopes to torpedo the whole idea to establish a Romulan only influence in the surrounding area, a Bajoran just cause I like the idea of the conflict between s/he and the Cardassian gul, and what ever other species is appropriate or necessary for plots. [Thus you have your political dramas often seen on B5 and the ocassional spy vs. spy sessions.]

Maybe just for fun make the Klingon and Romulan envoys allies, both trying to disrupt the joint occupancy: the Romulans so they can take over; the Klingon because he secretly represents a new coalition of Houses that feel the Empire had been repressed socially by its Khitomer alliance with the Federation and was freed by the Dominion War to become the Empire they once were. They see the Alpha/Beta Quadrants ripe for the taking after everyone as suffered through the D.W., but as yet are too weak within the Empire to make there move. Both the Kling/Rom envoys work on mutual projects, but also not trusting each other have various independent projects afoot. . .often clashing with projects of the other. [Just a back story idea.]

Man I got to stop making these late night posts. . .just read that through and not sure if that made any sence at all!

    Wow that is way cool.

I am almost tempted to make a starbase game where they are the first AQ starbase built in the Gamma Quadrant (Starbase Gamma) and all the major powers (and some of the minor too maybe) are present to hold council etc.

Heck even the Dominion would have a Founder present to speak for them.

    Interesting stuff.

I don't know how playable it would be.

Maybe if they only played the crew of the location, not the ambassadors themselves

    That might work.

    Fortune Station

This is an idea I am currently working on. The station is not a Federation station. However, it sits on the frontier of Federation space. In my game, the name of the station is Fortune station. It sits near an asteroid field that is mineral rich but treacherous. The station is administered by a canny Ferengi that profits from supplying the colonists who mine the area, along with the other roustabouts who like hanging out on the edge of Federation territory.

Two indigenous races occupy areas near the station. One is adamantly neutral, and the other has petitioned for Federation membership. They have a longstanding hostility. However, officially they are at peace, while "extremists" of both races continue a low key war with each other using terroristic methods.

Add to that, a small group of pirates have begun raiding the claims of colonists and ore haulers in the area. Despite his loathing to do so, the Ferengi adminstrator has asked for Starfleet's assistance. The piracy and terrorism is hurting his profits, and Starfleet will play policeman for free. And he is sure he can handle dodging their authority in the areas he needs to.

Enter the players. There are two opportunities here. They can be Starfleet officers assigned as a contingent on the station. They will daily deal with maintaining order in an atmosphere equivalent to the Wild West. They may have to rescue colonists, break up bar room brawls, investigate sabotage and keep an eye on the shifty station administrator.

As another option, the players might be the crew of a Starfleet vessel appointed to keep peace in the area. Playing escort to ore haulers, flying patrols around the area, fighting pirates, and apprehending smugglers.

    Hope this helps

Talking Another Take of the B5 Rip-Off

The once Cardassian occupied station was in an area of space that was of strategic value, and devastated during a long drawn out battle between Dominion/Cardassian forces and the Federation/Allies. [This allows your uh oh whats the problem with the station this week session.]

Not only the station itself but many of the surrounding plantary systems suffered extensive damage. Refugees are a big problem; pirates and black markets are an even bigger problem. [This allows your shoot-em-outs with the bad guys and adds the humanitarian aid flip to sessions with the refugees (am I spelling that right?).]

The Cardassians, who never had a proper claim to the region anyway, have abandoned all presence in the area. Out of necessity to restore order the Federation has moved into the area. Unwilling to bear the burden by itself they form a joint occupancy by all the recent allies who fought the Dominon. Envoys are posted from each government and this joint group is responsible for not only the governance and repair of the station, but overseeing the aid to the surrounding planetary systems (sort of a mandate territory feel as with parts of the Middle East after the First World War, or Germany after the Second). [As with my first posting I would make the Romulans only there out of self interest thus allowing the occassional spy vs. spy session, but covers the political drama seen on B5.]

The Klingon/Romulan back story is still valid to this idea. In addition you can play around with some of the species once under Cardassian Occupation in the region. Might be fun having one or two speices that were pre-space flight who were subjected to Cardassian rule who now are P.O'ed at you because you are going to rebuild them up to their pre-occupation level then leave them alone to their own development. "What!? Your going to come here rebuild our homes then leave us to live our lives without your advanced technology like you never existed!? To hell with your Prime Directive!" And of course those cultures you can assist fully are P.O'ed cause your not helping fast enough. "What a second! Why do they get three industrial replicators and we only get two!?" And dont forget the potential with the refugees. "Your sending back to the wasteland that was once my home so I can sit around and wait for you to someday show up and help me rebuild my home!? I don't think so. I have a family to care for. . .there is food and shelter here. This is where we are staying!" [Just some back story ideas.]
