This is not surprising in the least. There were a couple of reports in the press (bot here and in Israel) last week before the Powell briefing, that had talked with unnamed CIA-whistleblowers indicating the CIA has a ton of intelligence linking Ira and Al-Qaeda.

Powell had intended using intercepted trasmissions which would have clearly demonstarted Iraq was supporting Al-Qaeda... what happened???

Well before any Intelligence is disseminated to the general public it goes through an Intelligence board comprised of the different intelligence organization in the country (CIA, DIA, NSA, FBI to some extent). Al board members have veto power.. well guess what, the CIA excercised it's veto power.

Looks, like some old Clinton-era holdovers in The Agency are trying to cover their collective asses.

ANsar al-Islam has been associated with Al Queda for quite a while, and have had their numbers boosted by Taliban & Al Queda refuges coming from Afghanistan by way of Iran.

Sounds like a propaganda spin to me, Capt. Hunter, but not something that could be ignored.

If the remnants of the Taleban aggress coalition forces in Afghanistan, they will be annihilated. Honestly, I don't think these rag-tag bunches have got any idea what it means to challenge a western power. But, if these groups keep on retreating to the hills, I guess the only way to keep them at bay is a prolonged occuparion while the country is rebuilt. I think that only when they're rejected by their own people will they finally disappear.
