    This just in....

Talked with two of my Kurdish co-workers today, and the word they were hearing from their families (still in northern Iraq) last night, is that Saddam has begun passing out NBC gear to his troops bordering the Kurdish controlled area of Iraq.... Gee, he said he had no biological or chemical weapons... hmmm why would he need NBC gear for his troops... boy, that's weird.

    Unhappy Oh Shi***

Tongue in cheek aside, there's only two reasons to issue NBC gear to the troops- either you're gonna use it or you think someone else is.
Since we lack the stockpile and the will to use it first, this is NOT a good sign.
If I recall correctly, there was some talk of the US moving troops through that region on their way to Kuwait.
Let's pray to God he's not planning on wiping out the locals to prevent us from getting any assistance or a pre-emptive strike on our forces marshalling in the region.

And not like Mr. Hussain hasn't used biological weapons on his own citizens before. Hmmm . . .

God I hate MOPP4. But if it's the difference between life & death, I'll wear those things.

I just wonder if they have enough to meet the one per 24 HR limit?

Honestly, he's probably better off striking quickly in the next week or so, in the hopes of catching us off guard. If he started with a massive offensive causing mass casualties it could quickly turn public opinion against the war...

Sorry, but the average U.S. citizen has gotten so used to our forces quickly mopping up the enemy that he couldn't stomach mass U.S. casualties, and would join the chorus of the left-wingers saying "see, I told ya so." A far cry from the days of WWII when Eisenhower was willing to accept 75% casualties among airborne troops on D-Day in order to achieve military objectives.

But the reality is Saddam will sit back and wait for us to act, then unleash his NBC terror. My guess is Saddam is expecting a replay of the Gulf War with some 3-4 monthes of bombing sorties. He probably expects to lob the few SCUDs he has left at Israel, and fire his NBC ordinance at our boys.

Now if we're smart I say forget the 3-4 monthes of bombing. Launch a full-scale lightning fast ground offensive into Iraq. Imagine a massive bombing raid on Saddam's military facilities in Bahgdad, coupled with a massive drop of Airborne troops behind Saddam's front line troops on his borders. His front line will fall within hours, and we would control most of the country, and have Bahgdad effectively surrounded. Sit back, continue the bombing raids, and after a couple of weeks start the final assault. Hopefully, by that time, on of his commanders knocks him off, and Iraq can start the rebuilding process.

Not really a fair statement as it was expected that the paratroopers would suffer 10-20% causalities just from the jumps themselves. Though, still 55-65% losses are still hard to swallow.

Who would he strike? Most of the "Army of Light" is still off the various coasts. Heard the Pres. sent in another carrier group into the Med.

Nothing like that yearly 8 hours in a rubber suit that somehow always smells of puke, no matter how new it is...

This topic and discussion sound vaguely familiar...
The darkness inside me is a lot scarier than the darkness out there....
