    Exclamation StarFleet battles

back in the early eighties there was a game called starfleet battles. Today its has evolved into the popular PCgame Starfleet command. Back in the day, when I was much to young to know what I was doing, I played the pen and paper game. It was pure tactical and seemed more like practicing law with nearly a thousand pages of rules. But it was fun and had several terms that I have taken into my current game. One of the things that I have borrowed from that is the SSD. Ships Status Display. It was a series of boxes on an overhead view of your ship. the boxes represented hull and vital systems. As your ship would take damage you would check off those boxes. I recently adapated this for my Trek RPG game. I took the total number of point that a ship could take and divided it into the various systems that could be damaged on the chart. It turned out to be really fun, and it made starship combat that much more three dimesional. I was curious if anyone else has done this, and what the results where. I had to make a few modifications to the damage that a ship could take, but overall it was a feally smooth transition using the existing TNG starship combat rules. I have the SSD's for a Nebula and the new enterprise E. email me if you want to see them.

Hey! I've been associated with SFB since 1980, and its a great game! Interplay's Star fleet Command series of computer games is a great tribute to an enduring game. You say you have some SSD's on some legendary ships? Could I have some----Please?????

This is where it gets sticky. I didn't develop a degrading scale for torpedoes. If they were hit they didn't fire. But with phasers I established the the boxes on the SSD represent both the actual array and the capacitory and adjoining systems. As the boxes were checked off the total power that could be run through them was reduced.
I don't like the torpedo Damage system for the Lug starship combat. My house rules are that a basic torpedo does 2 plus three D6. fire three torpedoes you get six points plus the total of nine six sided die. Quantum do 5 plus 4D6, but are not as availible on starships of any class. I made them rare and hard to replace to keep the game in blance.

Hay thanks for the e-mail! I have never seen anything like these before and am very interested! I could see endless benefit from using these. Any chance of further production for other classes?

Go to this site, Don Miller has put up a lot of TNG conversions to SFB, he uses megaboxes, each maegabox is equal to ten regular SFB boxes . http://members.home.net/smileylich/sfb.html

I'll say this much: Don Miller is either a genius or Steve Cole's(SFB's inventor) worst nightmare. In a word: WOW!!!!! Talk about someone who can do SSD's....my compliments to all responsible.
