    Smile Starships Cards

    Howdy!

    Ok, since the main cards were so spiffy, and noone has done it yet apparently, I figured I'd do up the maneuvers in the Starships book to go right alongside Moriarti's excellent work. :-)

    Enjoy!

    I think I'm losing the plot

    I know it's just me being thick but I'm trying to open both sets of attachments so far posted - the system asks me if I want to open from current location or save to disk. I'm selecting Open from Current Location. It then asks me to select a program to run the file in, i'm selecting Word and it's telling me that file is in an invalid format.

    Can anyone give me some advice on what to do?

    Failing that - can anyone email me at jona1@orange.net with the files unzipped in Word.

    Cheers

    Jon
    We have all your working biros and we're not afraid to use them.

    Leave a box of used postit notes and a box of paperclips inside the filling cabinet and things won't get nasty.

    I guess you should download either Zip or Winrar because the files are compressed so you can't open them using directly words. I send you the files.

    graphics

    I've done some graphic improvement for the cards. It's still a work in progress, and may stay like that indefinitively, unless the people here want more.
    Let me know what you think of it.

    Allright guys, I'll finish it soon and post it here.
    I was waiting for an answer from Moriarty, but I take his silence as an agreement to let me use his idea.
    You'll have news from me soon.

    Most grateful, master Tobian!
    I am planning to have there printed out, for use with our next ship-to-ship engagement.

    Thumbs up I LIKE IT…

    One thought/suggestion though otaku mike:
    Make multiples of the cards in differing colors.
    Say:
    Blue = Federation,
    Red = Klingon,
    Green = Romulans,
    Yellow = Cardassians…just of the top my head
    (of course, a different design would be needed for each species/organization, but it a thought).
    ...and that's about the time it hit the fan...

    Truisms I know:
    1) Marvel is NOT better than DC (nor should EVERYTHING be ‘ULTIMITED’),
    2) D20 is NOT the best gaming system out there (nor should EVERYTHING be ‘crammed’ into it),
    3) And No matter how ‘THEY’ dress it up, Regardless of how ‘THEY’ title it, and even if ‘THEY’ say “BASED ON…”; “ENTERPRISE” IS NOT STAR TREK!!!
    4) 'Reality' T.V. ain't 'Real'

    OOoh pretty! That's sure to be useful!!

    One more suggestion if I might sir? Could we have blank cards, with just the backgrounds, for home made maneuvers?

    Actually, I used Moriarti's color code, which associate one distinctive color (Red, Blue and Yellow) to one type of Card (respectively, Helm, Command and Tactical). The choice of color, about which one of Helm or Command really deserves the Red was quite difficult, but I eventually settled with respecting Moriarti's choice.
    IMHO, this color coding is more useful for play than some sort of race-customization. But the race-customized concept hit me anyway, as I already thought about an option : adding icons representing the "factions" of the trek universe for which the card is easier to use (for example TN reduced by 3), or on the opposite more difficult (TN + 3), while some could be playable only by some "faction".
    But I'll keep that for later, as it introduces lots of complexity where it should make the game faster. I guess I've been too much impressed by the graphics of the Star Trek CCG 2nd Ed. and those cards should not aim to be a game in the game.
    Any thoughts?

    This is a sure thing. I planned to make them since the beginning.

    And as a French, you may know of the old boardgame "Full Métal Planète". I designed a set of optional cards to play it à la "Tempête sur l'échiquier". If you're interested, you can download the PDF file here
