    Post The Triangle and LUG

    In Questions and Mechanics someone mentioned that GM's have run Triangle (FASA) section campaigns with the LUG mechanics. If anyone has done this can they chime in about how they resolved the differences in canon?

    TNG era was never clear on where Orion space was. Let alone have it next to the Romulon Klingon Border in the near the Beta Quadrant.

    While FASA placed the orions close to the Triangle it is not Important that Orion Space be nearby to keep the feel going. Essentually FASA used the Orions much like the Feringi got used in the TNG. Orion colonies or those with Orion connections where easy to place in canon. Simply put Trek canon is quite on this account it is neither mention nor made impossible.

    TNG brought in the Nausicans which would have to have been seen in the trangle as while as the [?] Nebula. On the Romulan Way of Der'a map there is an excellant spot thats empty where the Triangle should be.

    I have used the Triangle as background mainly in stories and etc. its not quite as wild as it once was but is still the site of constant tensions and covert intelligence operations. A Place simular to Central Europe throughout the 20th century.

    I use the Triangle as a had-been in my TNG Game. The idea being that when the Feds and Klingons formed the Grand Alliance, they slowly extended their colonies and influence into the area. As a result the Romulans seized what territory they could and slowly the whole thing just vanished as it became part of one of the three.

    I've actually expanded the idea a bit. By TNG times most of the systems in the triangle have joined the "Associated Worlds" a very loose confederation of planets of a variety or races and ideals that have banned together for mutual defense against the "big three". As a result they have drawn folks in that (for one reason or another) are looking for a bit less government involvement. Anarchists, exiles, crimminals, freed/escaped Orion or other slaves, etc. Some worlds in the AW are very lawful - others are like the wild west with phasers. They basically backed the UFP-Alliance during the DW and from that are begining to build up a bit more of a star fleet of their own - mostly Miranda and Excelsior era ships purchased from the big three. My UFP has long supported them as a means to push the Klingons and Romulans back a bit - but keep it indirect, and of course the UFP won't force any of the worlds to join. For the other two power's part they have allowed them to continue as they form a valuable trade loophole through the neutral zones.

    Makes a great place to send the PC's. They are outside the UFP - but working with an allied group so they have to be extra nice to the local governments, its dangerous, and they don't know just what to expect. Sometimes the locals are friendly, sometimes they aren't!

    Also a great place to get humans from outside the UFP.

    Shouldn't it be "triangular prism" or "pyramid" instead of "triangle"?

    I use the Triangle as the centerpiece for my campaign, although I changed it radically from what FASA had for it.
    Picture a nebular region with heavy organic elements supporting a complex spacedwelling ecosystem with many neutral worlds and small alliances. I glommed on to races and cultures from books and movies and rounded them out with several races of my own and, of course, a number of locations from the show itself.
    I wanted a place where a lot of the normal rules of Trek were on hold to create a more "cyberpunk" environment. Fortunatly my players seem to like it.
    And to anybody who thinks Star Trek can't be cyberpunk then check out the DS9 episode "Honor Among Thieves" where O'Brian goes undercover on Farius Prime, a planet with grimy streets full of double dealing scum. They even have netrunners with the added color of being able to netrun across intersteller distances.
