Ranks and the Ground Forces

I'm currently running a ground forces campaign and intend to have the PC's return to "normal" Starfleet duty on a ship.
I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to convert a promotion given in the ground forces towards a Starfleet vessel's norm?

Most of these characters are unfit for a higher rank on a ship, because of lack of certain skills, however they are perfect candidates in the ground forces.

Something like this I think;

SF Enlisted
Crewman
Crewman 1st Class
Petty Officer 3rd class
PO 2nd Class
PO 1st Class
Chief Petty Officer
Senior CPO
Master CPO
Command CPO

GF
Private
Pvt 1st Class
Corporal
Sergeant
Staff Sergeant
Sergeant 1st Class (?)
Master Sergeant
Sergeant Major
Command SM

Now, these are from the EarthForce Sourcebook. Probably a few changes are necessary.

Thank you for all the information, I have already implemented all the ideas.
