    Stargate question

Can any of our American friends tell me if the opening credits on the Stargate SG-1 DVDs ever get used on the transmitted episodes? Every ep I've seen here in Blighty has the old Egyptian style credits, whereas my few DVDs have much funkier "cast and effects" credits. I was wondering why they don't use these (if that is the case) on the transmitted shows, as it might pull in the casual viewer more easily ("whoa! kewl effects!!").

As you may have noticed, I'm so enamoured of having my own internet connection at last that I'm reduced to the level of posting questions like this...
"That might have been the biggest mistake of my life..."

"It is unlikely. I predict there is scope for even greater mistakes in the future given your obvious talent for them."

    Huh?

The aired episodes and DVD opening titles are identical. Essentially tight shots of the Stargate glyphs interspersed with the actors and a few "money shots" from episodes featureing the characters.

Season six did feature a new opening title sequence--they've totally ditched the epsiode/actor shots in favor of strictly shots of the Stargate. I prefer this title sequence by far.

I really didn't understand your question.

The credits used for the Brit-shown eps are just slow pans across bits of the 'gate and Egyptian artifacts, ending with a view of a dog-headed Egyptian statue (probably Anubis, though he hasn't shown up yet over here - we're only on Season Four). The actors aren't seen at all, nor are any clips from the show. Rather boring but more in line with the movie, I guess.

The DVD credits begin with the 'gate spinning, chevron 7 locking and the "burst" as the wormhole forms, then a shot of Jack's face with the wormhole reflected in his eye. Then a clip of the Tauri symbol on the 'gate, which splits in two and becomes the two A's in "STARGATE SG-1" for the show title. It then shows a couple of Jack clips, the wormhole "traveller's-eye-view", then Daniel clips, more effects, Sam clips, more effects, Teal'c, then Hammond, ending with a shot of a death-glider crashing then a clip of the team running into the Stargate. Much more action-packed and gives you a better idea of what the show's about.

Plus one of the Sam clips in the DVD credits is the cutest Amanda Tapping bit I've ever seen (the bit where she gets promoted to Major comes a close second)...

Although Dr.Frasier is still the mistress of my heart... sigh

This sounds like the current Season 6 intro or the intro from the Stargate movie.

This is the US intro for Seasons 1-5 and the DVDs.

I believe I can explain. The slo-pan intro is what Showtime used for the opening credits. The other version (with clips from season one) is what is used for syndication and the DVDs.

    Talking Allow me to Explain........

Well.......After watching the last episode of Series 6 (I'll spoil it for you in the next post!!!! ) and taped every episode from Sky 1 (our satelite channel provider in the UK) I'll explain the intros.....

    Season 1 to 5

It is the same introduction as the movie..ie, it slowly pans across close up to the ebony and gold mask of Ra and then it zooms out slowly to reveal the full mask.

Season 6 is shown differently with the part of the Stargate ring circling round and in the other side are montage shots of RDA, Amanda Tapping, Christopher Judge, Corin Nemec and Don S Davis and the final shot shows the four of them walking into the event horizon of the Stargate.

Now the next post I am going to post is a rough guide to the Final Episode "Full Circle".

    Don't say I didn't warn you!

    Engage........

The episode begins on Abydos where we learn that Anubus is planning an assault in order to locate the 'Eye of Ra', which is one of six. Anubus has already collected the other five, such as the 'Eye of Apophis'. These are powerful weapons in their own right but when combined together it increases their power ten-fold. Daniel tells Ska'ra to seek out those willing to fight against Anubus.

We then switch back to Earth where O'Neill is riding a lift, when Daniel (who causes the lift to break down) visits him. Daniel tells O'Neill that he needs to find the Eye before Anubus. O'Neill quips that what happened to hello, how are you, how have you been doing etc. from his old friend. So they go through the motions of asking. O'Neill then asks why can't Daniel help, to which Daniel explains that he can't because he is forbidden from doing so, and if he did he would endanger the Oma Desala's followers.

SG-1 hold a briefing session where O'Neill explains that they need to go to Abydos, when O'Neill asks where he got the information from he replies from Daniel. Teal'c says he too was visited by Daniel recently to which O'Neill asks why didn't you say something. Teal'c replies why didn't you. Hammond says that the source of information is good enough for him and OK's the mission.

After arriving on Abydos Teal'c and the Abydonian's take up defensive positions around the pyramid, Whilst the remainder of SG-1 along with Ska'ra look for the 'Eye' in the pyramid. As they are looking Anubus arrives in a gigantic mother ship. The positions around the pyramid come under attack from Death Gliders and All'kesh, as well as some sort of big troop transport.

After searching for some time O'Neill calls out for Daniel to help them, saying to Carter and the others he knows he is here. Daniel is able to steer them in the right direction to find the hidden chamber, as well as figuring out how to open it, from the inscription that Ra draws his power from the sun. It requires light to open the door. After trying white light Daniel realises from the picture that it requires red light in order to open. In the room they discover a tablet that reveals who the ancients are, a race who long ago that where dying learned to ascend, those that couldn't simple died, and that they left behind a lost city. A city full of the ancient 's technology. (ATLANTIS anyone?)

After a brief firefight in the gate room of the pyramid where most of the defenders are killed the survivors fall back to the catacombs below the pyramid.

Daniel makes a deal with Anubus that he will turn of the 'Eye' if he leaves the Abydonian's alone forever, and that he will make sure that Anubus keeps his word. Anubus agrees. However, Daniel's threats don't seem to phase Anubis and the reason for that is he reveals his "face" and we discover Anubis learned to Ascend like The Ascended when his physical body dies, but he was partially "decended" from the other and his cloak/mask allows him to contain his essense and become physical. Whilst Daniel is dealing with Anubus a fleet of mother ship's from all the System Lords arrive under the command of Lord Yu (we later learn that it was Daniel that alerted them to Anubus's plans).

Back on Abydos Ska'ra dies of his wounds and ascends. When Daniel returns we learn that Oma Desala is also there and helped Ska'ra ascend. After handing over the eye to the First Prime of Anubus, G-1 make their way back to the gate room.

After gaining the 'Eye', Anubus uses it along with the others to destroy most of the assembled enemy mother ships with a dazzling array of pyrotechnics!. Just as Anubus is about to attack Abydos, Daniel appears and tells him to stop. To which Anubus says stop me if you can. Daniel tries to stop him but is thwarted and disappears; Anubus first prime whom witnesses this says to Anubus that he is truly all-powerful. Anubus says it wasn't him.

As SG-1 are making their way back to the gate we sea the empty clothes of the Abydonian's leading us to believe that they have all ascended. Anubus attacks Abydos with the ship's primary weapon that can be best described as "a Death Star Super Laser" just as O'Neill is about to step into the Stargate (and it is a stunning visual of the pyramid exploding from the top down and out!), O'Neill only just manages to make it through the gate before the wormhole collapses and Abydos explodes, sensors detected a massive surge of power just before it collapses. Attempts to redial Abydos prove unsuccessful.

After numerous attempts they final manage to dial Abydos where they are somewhat surprised to see Ska'ra. After a brief chat about journeys beginning etc. He says that the gate will remain until they leave.

I apologise to all those who read this and had their viewing spoilt, but I did warn you!
