I knew I'd made a lot of mistakes... I only saw it once in a book in a store somewhere. But thanks for getting them right.

And you KNOW we all have too much time on our hands when we sit around discussing what the best theme song from Star Trek is!

Um. . .I am. . .very, very, very happy that they did not use those in the theme. Excellent decision not to use them in my opinion.

Voted for Voyager, although I find the TNG theme more cheerful. The visuals of the VOY opening sequence helped too.

DS9 was a bit to slow for me, and I can't say I love the ENT theme (I don't hate it either, just not something I'm fond of).

The visuals make the Enterprise theme for me. I find it so uplifting to see mankind's greatest real life "star trekish" exploratory moments all together.

Only to be let down by the story after the opening credit.

Oh, well. Like I have said before, the only good thing about ENTERPRISE is the opening theme. After that, I switch to Saturday Night Live for about an hour and then watch Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda.

Reg, no offense, but must you keep coming back to that in any thread that mentions Enterprise? We all know you don't like the show, but expressing opinions about CONTENT of the shows was not the point of this thread.

    Cool

Just making sure the newbies that are just visiting the board knows. I may add that to my sig below.

Funny, I have observed that early in the first season of ENT not many people cared for the soft rock tune, but now it is placed third among favorite Trek music.

Of course, this is an unscientific poll.

I find the theme songs mirror the way I'd characterize the shows.

    TOS - a little cheesy
    TNG - proud and optimistic
    DS9 - long-winded; revamped half-way through to appeal to a bigger audience
VOY - lots of nothing really
ENT - old stuff, re-packaged and sold as innovative and new

So I chose TNG, because the theme song is tied to many fond memories of me discovering Trek via great episodes.
No power in the 'verse can stop me.

I have a hard time picking one as my favorite, but I ended up picking DS9 ( the 2nd version ,try the version on the cd Fantastic Television. it's really cool.).as I'm voting I'm listing to ST Vol. 2 The Doomsday Machie/Amok Time soundtrack, next I'm putting on The Cage/Where No Man Has Gone Before. I really just like them all.

I'm 1 of the 2 people that voted for TOS.It's campy and overly dramatic but so appropriate. The rest of TOS music is undoubtably the best in Trek(though a trained musician would probably disagree).Runner up DS9 later version-kind of understated but powerful. The all time worst-Enterprise.I thought it was Bon Jovi when I first heard it.Great visuals though.

It was originally performed by Rod Stewart for the Patch Adam movie (just aired on ABC-TV saturday night).

Russell Watson performed the song for ENTERPRISE.

Besides, Bon Jovi would have sang:

    Oh, we're half way there
    Oh, livin' on a prayer
Take my hand, we'll make it here I swear
    Whoa, livin' in a prayer.

What's wrong with Rod Stewart? I like his music.

It should be noted that the book "Inside Star Trek" by Justman and Solow (sp?), they stated that Roddenberry grafted those lyrics onto the Alexander Courage theme music to guarantee himself royalties every time the music is played. Supposedly, the lyrics don't even fit the music and would never work. That's apparently also the reason Courage would never again work for the franchise.

To this day, every time the theme is used in a new episode the Roddenberry estate gets a chunk of change.

I find that incredibly hard to believe. Gene Roddenberry has just never struck me as the type who would pull a cheap stunt like that. But then again, you never know, I suppose...

And BTW, about Rod Stewart originally being the one to sing "Where My Heart Will Take Me..." I don't see how someone else's rendition of the song, when he didn't actually write it, could possibly have any bearing on how good Russel Watson sings it, or the quality of the song overall.
