After the War, Mort was recovered by the Federation. In part because of his extensive experience and resultant expertise with Cardassians during the War, he was assigned to this starbase. Perhaps surprisingly, Mort never once demonstrates any hatred or anger towards Cardassians or even the Breen during his tale. His Bolian nature keeps him focused on teamwork and cooperation; he prefers peace, not war.
Gir listens politely, extracting every piece of useful information from the Bolian's tale. When he sees the introspective pause, he recalls his own loss -- how many of his friends died that day against the Atlirith, how the Andorian scum mercilessly pounded an already crippled vessel that was forced to abondon the battle.
No, Gir would not forget that day, nor forgive the Andorians for that humiliation. Never.
A smile instantly on his lips the moment Mort's story ends, the Cardassian engineer claps him on the shoulder. "We should probably head for Muiroc's before our seats are taken," he says, gesturing down the Promenade. "Shall we?"

"Frightened? My dear, you are looking at a man who has laughed in the face of death, sneered at doom, and chuckled at catastrophe! I was petrified."
