Selim has taken a seat near Gir and other Cardassians, but not too far away from the people he met during the party either.
He orders some typical Cardassian food, but settles for a standard vintage of kanar. His mood seems to have been definitively improved (either by the events at the party or the two glasses of kanar he had there), and he amiably considers the other guests while they sit at the table. He greets Tairen as a fellow member of the medical staff, but doesn't interrupt his following conversation with the Vulcans.

After the little Andorian girl outburst, he will discretly watch her from time to time, trying to find what is strange about her. Also, he still watches Commander Julath with some concern as she keeps drinking.

And for the first dice roll of the game...

Selim uses Observe to watch Li'shai - Rolled a 10, success.
Sorry if this was an arbitrary roll but I thought it was the best way to see if he notices anything.

On close observation for about ten minutes, Selim finally realizes what's unusual about Li'shai- although, as her mother has said, she is part human, it strikes Selim that she looks like she might also have a small portion of blood from another race in her, although what that might be you can't tell yet.

Soltar observes the scene. He is particularly interested in the eating habits of the various species present. He is well aware that for most beings eating is one of the most culturally ingrained activities. For most, food consumption rituals have developed and evolved from primeaval times.

Despite his interest in eating habits, he is not, (hopefully... GM?) unaware of the byplay between the Andorian and Cardassian. He makes a mental note to look into, if possible, the circumstances surrounding the assignment of certain individuals to this station.

"If one did not know better, and I do not, one might consider that the assignments might be an attempt to make this experiment fail." he thinks to himself.

In an effort to dispel some of the tension, he approches (Lieutenant?) Mun'daron and her daughter... just happening to place himself between her and Gir across the room... in the hope that she will relax slightly if the Cardassian is out of sight.

"Greetings, Lieutenant Mun'daron. I am Soltar of Vulcan. My duties here are primarily diplomatic, however I concluded that an introduction was appropriate as a matter of courtesy between professionals. If I can be of assistance in any way, please do not hesitate to inquire."

OOC: Yes she is a Lieutenant. Ranks for NPCs are as follows:

Julath - Commander
Kuran - Legate
Tairen - Lt. jg
Mun'daron - Lieutenant

In game:

Mun'daron seems momentarily taken aback by the Vulcan, but does indeed settle down a bit since she can no longer see the Cardassian watching her like a hawk. At Soltar's offer of assistance, she says, "Yes... I could use some 'assistance...' you can tell your Cardassian friend over there to stop staring at me... he's frightening my daughter." She hold Li'shai close to her as she's speaking.
Li'shai, however, seems to have gotten over her astonishment at Gir, and has turned her attention to Soltar. Eyes widening, she reaching up a tiny hand to try and touch the Vulcan's pointed ears, but she can't quite reach because her mother is still holding her. Mun'daron mutters a quiet word of reproach to her, and she settles down.

Solek had a normal upbringing, His parants are instructors at the Vulcan Science Acadamy. While most of his family still resides on Vulcan, he is not the 1st of his relatives to join Starfleet.

Durring the Dominion war while leading an away team on a planetary survey, he and his team were cut off from thier ship, USS Stellar Flare, a Nebula class ship, by a Jem'Hadar patrol. He managed to lead his team to saftey when the Jem'Hadar landed troops. they even managed to take out a squad.

There was also a time when he had to take over for the Tactical officer when he was injured in a battle with a Jem'Hadar Patrol Ship.

He was attracted to this position by the prospect of studying this region of space and the Cardassian Eco-system.

Selim turns to Gir as Soltar steps between him and Mun'Daron : "Interesting people, are they ? I had never met an Andorian, actually... but I was almost certain interbreeding with humans was not possible for them. It'd be interesting to know wich treatment she followed. Maybe this would account for..." the end of the sentence is lost in a mumble.

OOC: Clarify - which treatment she used? What does that mean? Sorry if this is an obvious question that everyone else knows the answer to.

OOC :No, I don't think it's obvious and I admit I have been stretching a bit here. In DS9, when Dax and Worf wanted to have children, Bashir told her he'd give her an hormonal treatment (or something like that), since Trills and Klingons aren't compatible. So I thought it might be a common procedure for interbreeding species that aren't compatible at first. Of course, this could also be considered common knowledge only for people working in medical.
Sorry for the imprecision.

Okay, thanks for clarifying. I now can answer that one, since I, as your semi-omniscient narrator know the details about her background, including the birth of her daughter. But Selim will have to find out the answer for himself...

In game:

Since Gir has moved over to where Tairen and the Vulcans are sitting the Counselor now turns his attention. Tairen has been watching Gir out of the corner of his eye during dinner, so he introduces himself, and then says, "You seem agitated about something. Is it anything you'd like to discuss?"

Soltar thinks to himself, "Another datum: A security chief with an obvious vulnerability."

"Lieutenant, Vulcans do not generally have friends... and children are notoriously difficult to intimidate. In any event, I plan to introduce myself to Counselor Tairen next. I will attempt to discover what particular interest, if any, Laran has in you or your daughter."

Soltar heads to the other table.

OOC: Just a note that before engaging in conversation with an NPC, make sure that the NPC is not currently talking with other characters. Right now just about every player is wanting to talk to Counselor Tairen. I will resolve all those conversations, so don't worry about that, but just be sure to check in the future.

For the moment though I will continue as though Tairen was talking to all of them at once- consider it that these conversations actually took place a few minutes apart.

In game:

Tairen greets Soltar with the traditional Vulcan handsign, and says in Vulcan, "Live long and prosper."
He asks Soltar the same questions he asked Solek- about his background and what brings Soltar to the station. "Or," he adds, "is there something you wanted to discuss with me?"

"You must forgive me, Counselor," the engineer says. "I must admit that I'm still...uncomfortable...mingling socially with beings who were just recently my enemies. You understand that I have to restrain myself from diving for cover and firing."

With that, Gir chuckles mischeviously and takes another drink.

Mort will make his usual friendly rounds, introducing himself to the other crewmembers. He won't probe into Mun'daron's family life, though he will take a liking to the little one: resorting to tickling, poking, goofy faces, or any other means necessary to make her smile and laugh at him.

After introductions with Tairen are finished, Mort will comment to him: "We both want the same thing... for everyone on this starbase to be happy so that they can perform optimally. I especially hope for teamwork and cooperation. I won't get in the way of your duties, but I hope I can supplement them."

He will also try to cheer up the Legate. "It may not be the romantic evening you planned, but you have plenty of other nights for that. Look at this crowd! This new crew, ready to embark on their new mission. The excitement, the uncertainties. How many opportunities will you have to participate in this? Perhaps the Commander has had too much to drink, but at least she's enjoying herself! Let's have a drink together... would you like another kanar?"

Li'shai smiles and giggles at the Bolian. She definitely seems to have forgotten about the surly Cardassian.

As for Tairen, he remarks that he would welcome Mort's help with the crew's morale.

Legate Kuran is still a bit unsure about joining the rest of the crew for dinner after he had planned a romantic date with Julath, but Julath seems to have settled the matter. She has moved from the piano to the main table and approaches the area where most of you are sitting, near Counselor Tairen. She shakes hands with all of you and tells you that she looks forward to serving with all of you. Kuran accepts Mort's offer of another drink and reluctantly goes to join the main group as well.

Just as she finishes with the introductions, your meals arrive and dinner begins properly. Everyone settles down and begins eating. You're welcome to continue your conversations if you like or embark on other endeavours if you so wish.
