This is the only question of yours I can help with. Over at the Trek BBS Literature forums, and on the Pocket Books Trek forums, this question gets raised all the time. The answer from TPTB has consistently been that there will be no updates to either the Chronology or the Encyclopedia for the forseeable future.

Which is a shame. I really like the latest version of both books.

I second that and say that it seems that Pocket Books has turned completely away from Faction books The way I understand it the Survival guide and Starchats were the last projects of this sort in the works and now they have both been published.

They site cost but seem unwilling to consider other alterntives to lower them. for instance they seem to be focus that the encyclopedia has to be in a single volume, when a nice two volume edition would more then easily solve the price issue and production issue.

Thanks ,Gents.Bummer.It seems like they'd allmost have to print at least a new chronology due to ENT.I'm sure the cost would be offset by all of us buying the books! How do you petition a publishing company?

    Star Charts

How many copies of Star Charts did everyone buy? I bought three: two to take apart and make posters from, and one to keep intact. Think we can buy enough to merit a second edition?

Who thinks the silence from The Decipher Powers That Be concerning Starcharts means they're having top secret juicy discussions on the subject?

To my kjnowledge, no. However, they really haven't done much that would be able to use that information yet. Worlds might reference it when discussion the location of the planets, though I haven't heard for certain if this is the case.

Okay thanks for the Heads up Doug.

Still it would be good if there is some cross ref with future products that deal with space/sectors etc.

    Pocket reference books

I like someone's idea of Essential Guides (called something else of course). Some of the same categories would make sense. Ships has already been done, but could of course stand to be more comprehensive. Characters could be basically Encyclopedia entries for everyone or more flowing biographies for the stars. I think I've already suggested a new Worlds book, possibly hand in hand with the released Star Charts or with a Second Edition. A more narrative Chronology would be nice alongside the past format. The idea with all this is to go in a new direction and to split the Encyclopedia into separate books.

I'd like to correct myself on this. I know now that TPTB are going to be using Star Charts as a reference not only for planet location, but also for the layout fo some worlds (which are apparently pictured in Star Charts). So I guess the answer your question, Sig, is "yes, it will be."

I think they have already deviated from the distances given in starcharts. I can't tell you any numbers now, but in "2 days and 2 nights" (or something like that) the crew is on Risa and Archer shows an alien woman our sun and tells her how far it is away from their location. And the distance he told her was too far, I think.
