To Ergi:I guess it wouldn't be ENT without inconsistencies.

And it pleases me to no end that SC is being considered official(or at least semi-official).That book rocks. Thanks for the response Doug.

Just in case you misunderstood me, I like the book, too, and I am sure that it can be considered official. You are probably right about what you said about Enterprise but there are minor inconsistencies in every Star Trek show. I like very much thinking about possible explanations for them. Maybe Archer was simply wrong (I don't think so) or it was something like a "Who's got the longest ..." contest to him when the woman said that the sun was so dim.

However the writers weren't very professional when writing this scene. I mean if I knew there was a book I could look something up so that I wouldn't have to make it up by myself, I would spend those 5 minutes and save my mental capacities for something else.

Maybe they didn't know the book existed. Some writers are lazy and would rather make something up than actually make the effort to look it up.

Part of a (fiction) writer's job is making stuff up, after all...

The latest distance from Earth I heard on Enterprise seemed to fit Star Charts pretty well, but then there's the Blue Giant cluster. So should we relocate everything since the pilot to the Canopus patch beyond the Klingons because Enterprise didn't return to Earth like Star Charts says?

What episode are the Blue Giant Cluster referenced Cochrane?

And what makes you say Canopus other then the obvious similarities.

The Blue Giants were mentioned in the last couple of episodes, I think. Canopus was a separate thought. I interpret Archer's comment "keep going" as keep going in the same direction, and conveniently Star Charts shows a patch of Federation space beyond the Klingons. I guess they could have been exploring Zenith or Nadir of Klingon space, and that could now be Federation territory not indicated in The Book.

    Response to Ergi

Dude, I've spent a small part of my adult life making up explanations for Trek inconsistencies.I'm glad I'm not the only one.And It would be nice if all of the ST writers did as much of their homework in respect to official background as we would like.Oh well.I'll keep watching .ENT is a good show.

Did Paramount instruct Decipher to consider SC official. or was it Decipher's decision? Would the whole book be considered official, including The Patriarchy? If so, I'd imagine The Patriarchy would be given a new identity. But what about Cait? For that matter, what about Berengaria and Vendor? Will future products use SC Planetary Classification? Is the policy on Spotter mostly an exception?
