Actually, I think Terry Pratchett had an interesting take on this matter ... got to dig my pile of books to see if I can find it ... the Guards series ... any other Pratchett fan here?

These forums ,as said before are indeed someone else's property. We live in a grim and uncertain world and i watch Star Trek to escape to an optimistic future, play RPG's to tell fun interactive stories, and play miniature games to test my mettle on the table.I use this site to interact(hopefully) with other ST fans and take what i can for use for my games. I've never looked at the political threads. It's not what I'm here for.If I want a political disscuccion I'll go to the coffee house, work, ect. This is a resource for gaming, not for someone to try to impress everyone wiyh their Knowledge of current affairs.Good call,Don.I'll continue to ignore the polical threads if they pop up again. And I'll continue to frequent this site.

I will ask this, is the fact that this site exists at all a result of Free Speech?

Now as I said as the owner of a private but public Club, place whatever you prefer as long as it is not His "living room", ( a horrible analogy in my view, if anything a living room by its nature is either a dictatorship or an arostacracy), he does have the right to establsih the rules, regulations and so on... much like a parlimentarian or bouncer.

Eric I think you are missing the point, we agreed to rules when we came in here, one of those being that Don is the boss of the place and his rules go.

This is not a democray it is a dictatorship, a benevolant one to be sure, but Don is under no obligation to do anything he doesn't want.

P.S. You getting so desperate for a political debate you are gonna start one over the lack of them <----- That was a joke!

    Cool

Whatever his evil plan is, I support Don 100%, so says Minion #8 (trying to become Minion #7).

(says minion #28 hoping to gain favours of a higher ranked minion ...)

Good riddance to 'em I say. I never came here to listen to self-proclaimed 'experts' berating people for daring to have a differing opinion. And lets be honest, for every person who was happily into polite debate, there were at least two who just wanted to hurl abuse.

Which is exactly why I stopped posting at TrekBBS.

This forum is not, as far as I'm aware, in existence for political discussion or for hitting people over the heads with your opinion. Apologies to those of your who could keep a civil tongue in your head, but IMHO this place is a gaming resource. Political threads were taking up far too much space here, and I'm ecstatically happy to see them gone.

I enjoy a good political debate with fellow Star Trek fans, but when I'm in that mood I go to the Trek Nation site which has a section just for that sort of thing.
I respect Don's decision to leave that stuff out of the TrekBBS.
Having said that I have to say that leaving the site because someone was mean to you over the internet seems somewhat childish. There are people that use the anonymity of the net to be rude. That is also childish.
The thing is that leaving the site where you have people who enjoy discussing trek with you because someone was rude to you in a thread you did not have to even read...
    Enough said.

Originally posted by Lt.Khrys AntosAnd as far as people leaving because of political threads; in my eyes that was silly. Not to insult any of them, but leaving because of political threads in the general discussion forum is ridiculous.
So since I come here no more, I am childish and ridiculous ? No, I will come here no more bacause of above beliefs.
