Thread: Starfleet Operations manual available for purchase

  1. #46
This is a repost from another thread, but I thought that maybe I'd get a different target with this post:
While the rest of us wait for Amazon.com to ship us our pre-ordered books, could you say a little about the CODA stats for the Sovereign. Awhile back it was mentioned that the Sovereign had regenerating shields, can you confirm this? What other goodies does the ship design have and what is her cruising speed?

The book looks great! I really appreciate Decipher's decision to go hardcover as well as full color. Additionally, to my eye, the layout is the same as the core books (another plus in my opinion).

The book also seems to deliver quite a bit for the price (I paid around $15 but even at $20 it is still worth it). Almost everything I have read so far is immediatley applicable to my Trek game (albiet my game is centered around Starfleet characters).

In regards to the Sovereign, I will just say it is a step beyond most (if not all) Starship vessels we have seen write-ups for. While I did not find mention of regenerative sheilding, it does have fast cruising speeds, more offensive puch, and more defensive durability than other starships.

For what the book is, I give it high praise. While it may not be the most detailed source on Starfleet operations, it does give enough game info (in the form of expanded rules and commentary) to expand my Starfleet based game.

Not a bad guess, but that was the third episode to air. Crewman Darnell died in the first episode to air. Another hint: one theory advanced for the cause of death was that he'd eaten the poisonous "Borgia plant". However, that is not what actually killed him.

Oh, for crying out loud! I can't believe no one's gotten this one yet....

The unfortunate Crewman Darnell had all the salt sucked out of his body by a pretty blonde illusion on planet M-113 in "Man Trap," which aired September 8, 1966. Poor guy.

Not my fault Fesarius isn't particularly observant, now, is it?

    LOL

Actually, I quite like The Man Trap.

So, has anyone in the UK gotten their hands on a copy of mthe Ops Manual yet? Leisure Games haven't put up their latest upcoming releases list yet, so I haven't gotten my preorder in yet

My ordered copy arrived this morning. Though I haven't had a chance to go through it yet, I must say that that's REALLY fast order turnaround and shipping time on the part of Decipher. Much kudos for superior service.

Ah, but you "weren't 100% certain". Yeah, that's my excuse.

In my campaign, a small group of those monsters still lives on a remote planet. They were moved there by the Preservers, when it became clear that the original civilization was in serious danger of destruction.

    Well I hadn't double-checked

That's a neat idea Fesarius. I really like that one. Indeed, I may actually borrow it at some stage, if you don't mind.

You're more than welcome to. It's part of a long term arc I may or may not ever complete, in which the Preservers would take a somewhat more active role in the galaxy...
