    Post DW Game Idea

This has already been tried before, and for a while I actually ran a table top game of this. But here is my idea.

The setting is Just after the end of the Dominion War, prior to the Gamma Quadrent DS9 Books.

This crew, was expecting to join the front when it all went down, thus they start on Earth.

The vessel has only one really seasoned officer, her captain, with the rest of the vessel being manned by majority rushed officers with alot of battlefield promotions, and that like. Some of the more senior officers are former carear NCOs forced to be officers.

    So that's the beginning.

I've fleshed out the idea a little bit more and will post it after work.

Once I've gotten your feed back, everyone, I shall start setting up the game on a Yahoo Group.

    Well, it's a start.

What does the crew and ship do? Are they going to be explorers? Are they going to patrol borders? Are they going to provide relief efforts for cultures damaged during the war?

I guess my question would be, "What's the story?"

OK, here is the story for the pilot episodes.

The Vessel in question is the USS __________, and Akira Class Cruiser, Carrier Variant.

It shall have the following sections: 1 Starship Crew, 1 Carrier Air Wing, 1 Company Starfleet Marines (later to be reduced to about 1 Platoon, which will be done once the starship has reached the Sectors which it shall spend the majority of the game.

The game begins in the Sol system. The PCs will be either newly minted wartime Ens, NCOs forced to become officers, senior NCOs, or combat promoted junior officers. No one in this group is going to be above a LT, or above a CPO.

The USS __________, has just been repaired @ Utopia Planatia after being part, but not limited to, the defense of Vulcan, the failed defense of Betezed, and the Defense of Sol (thus why she had to go to drydock for a period of time). The majority of her pre-war seasoned crew has either been killed or transfered to other vessels where their experience is desperetly needed in the fleet.
The Captain, actually a wartime commissioned prior LTCMDR is one of the few remaining original prewar crew. The person has tons of experience and knows their shit. However, due to other events, she wouldn't have otherwise have been promoted if it wasn't for the war.
The XO is a former SCPO, promoted to LTCMDR due to war constrants. He is by far the most professional and most knowledgeable of the crew. He has lost a son and a daughter due to this war, and has only his wife and eldest son left.

There is of course your CAG and Marine Company commanders, that I have not yet fleshed out. But I can gaurentee you that the Marine Commander will be an interesting character.

The USS ___________ needs to be remanned, as most of her crew were reassigned to other more needy locations throughout the Fleet.

Thus where the PC step in.

The time frame for the beginning will be just prior to the end of the DW. Were she will make it just in time to see the direct aftermath of Cardassia.

For those of you who have played with me as a Narrator before, this beginning storyline might sound familar. But I have tweaked it some so that those previous bugs should be worked out.

Are you saying that SF forced commisions on Senior NCO's during the war?

Experienced officers are hard to come by during the war. They must draw from somewhere. Desperate times calls for desperate measures.

Granted. It seems unlikely, but there is a chance that it would need to be done. Furthermore, a good NCO would step into the position if the Officer was done, and there was no one to fill it. For the NCO and Commissioned Officer go hand in hand, and both should know each others job well.

You'd also see, due to attrition, FAST promotion for low ranked officers. So a lot of really young lieutenant commanders in dept. head positions without as much training as they should have. (A big problem for the officers in our camapign...) The academy probably would have booted cadets into the field the instant they had the basic training needed (say, second or thrid year). I agree, NCO's would have probably gotten warrant positions; a lot of warrant officers at the helm of starships, now, with a bunch of field commissioned mavericks at the lieutenant range.

    Just my guess.
"War is an ugly thing but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feelings which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."
