Favorite Star Trek Movie Soundtrack

I would say the TMP is the best soundtrack.

So I vote for that lovely X-Mas sounding opening

James Horner definitely gets the vote for II - III, but when the chips come down I've got to hand the award to Cliff Eidelman for TUC. That soundtrack seemed to walk a beautiful razor-straight edge between something of Horner's "seagoing" flavor, and a dark tinge that perfectly complemented the movie's serious, occasionally ugly insights into Human/Vulcan/Klingon nature. The "Battle for Peace" track remains one of our Crew's favorites for high-tension ship-to-ship showdown scenes.

I'm not really a fan of soundtracks qua soundtracks. Some work fine in the movie, but playing them without the movie is sort of like getting the libretto but not the opera -- you are just getting the minor part of the work as a whole.

So I'd have to vote "None Of The Above"

The Undiscovered Country is by far my favorite Trek soundtrack. I enjoyed the opening theme which actually could have (by itself) given the movie the title: "Star Trek VI: The End of The Universe!"
There was a genuine sense of urgency in the themes of this awesome soundtrack. Cliff Eidelmann brought a fresh perspective to the Star Trek themes...and the hope inspiring end titles of The Undiscovered Country were a strong contrast to the dark opening theme.

My other fave soundtracks would have to be: TMP and TWOK. (Both sounding very bombastic...and actually epic!) Also, NEMESIS...IMHO, Jerry Goldsmith's finest Trek work since TMP. The opening music to NEMESIS had me tapping my toes to the uptempo, dark overture. His percussive themes during the action reminded me of Total Recall. The opening themes to First Contact and Insurrection had me yawning. Good music, but still ....yawwwnnnn.

I voted for Nemesis. Quite simply Goldsmith's best Star Trek score since TMP. I only wish more of it could have been included on the CD.

I only hope this isn't the last Trek score by Goldsmith.

This is somewhat off-topic, but Jerry Goldsmith doing Thunderball? I have the James Bond soundtrack - the only movie I know of by that name - and the composer was John Barry, who was responsible for the amazing, distinctive and rich soundtracks that distinguished many of the early entries in the series (at least up until Man With the Golden Gun, which I think was his last). Am I off target on this one, or just off topic? Or both?

I think the "his" referred to Hirogen-Alpha's newly acquired disc, not to the composer.

Anyone here have The Astral Symphony, a compilation of the soundtracks (original music, not cover versions, but remixed) in symphonic form. Great stuff for just relaxing with headphones on.
