    Here's Another Federation-class

Here's another Ship. When TOS Spacedock came out, I build this version of the Federation-Class Dreadnought. Is based on Franz Joseph's Dreadnought to a point.

We never used it. It has been sitting in the computer sense then never seeing the light of day till now.

I beefed up the phaser and gave the ship more phaser than the ship should have.

When i have time i have another Vessel to finish with I will put up as well. this is a Romulan Warbird for the 23rd Centruty.

    DESCRIPTION AND NOTES
Fleet Data: Before the major refits of the Constution-class and construction of the Excelsior-class vessels the Starfleet Technitions began designing the Dreadnought type starships. Not as large as the Excelsior-class the new Dreadnoaght-class would be 21% larger than the Constatution-class at the time of designing.
The Federation-class was to be the second great achevement sense the Constatution-class’s construction. With only a marginal increase in warp speed the Federation-class was still an inprovement to the Constatuition carring a plethera of weapons and slightly improved deflector shields. A larger compliment of crew and passenger accomindations the Federation-class was a build to defend the United Federation of Planets from the Klingon's, Romulan's and Tholians. With the new threat of the Gorn the leadership in Starfleet ordered the construction of the Federation-class Dreadnought’s.
Although build with pride the Experimental vessel faild in testing and was later abandoned do to the failure to the designs. The knowledge gained from the construction was used later design of the Refits of the Constution-class Heavy Cruiser, The New Reliant-class Cruiser, and the New Excelsior-Class that Came years later to the Starfleet.

    Noteworthy vessels/service records/encounters: U.S.S. Federation NCC-2100, prototype version only, test bed to the Starfleet;

If this keeps up, we might have a full fleged resserection on our hands. Omega I thought FJ's Dreadnought had a phaser bank aft?
    Other than that looks wonderful.

Well it probably does I did most of it from memory and looked up size in my hand written note in a book, as I haven't seen the Tech manual in years. It is somewhere in the nebula I call by bedroom.

Looking at the book now, text has Phaser 5 banks/2 each. However I can only find 4 banks on the image, 2 p/s dorsal primary hull, 1 fore ventral primary hull, 1 ventral secondary hull. Also claims to have 2 banks of torpedoes Again I only see the 1 Foreward Dorsal bank...hmmm, oh well

I found 1 minor tech error...ship height 87 meters your off by 12

Looking at my notes again it does say that, but old notes and paper. I should have searched out my book or looked it up here on the net somewhere. Knowing that now, that would have given me more leeway on spacedock points to put in additional phaser and a Torpedoes as well as a few other things. I really should find the book.

To figure the spacedock point I took the sizes of the constitution class and multiplied them by the following. Height X Width X Height = sum. Did the same with the Federation and then divided the Constitution's size into the Federations and came up with the percentage of difference. Then I multiplied the constitutions SU's against the percentage and got the points.
Originally I came up with a 21% difference it should have been a 31% difference of 150 SU's to work with. Doing this I didn't worry about the space between the nacelles and hulls as they both bore similar looks to one another.

Dusting off my copy of the book I find: 2 p/s dorsal primary hull, 1 fore ventral primary hull, 1 ventral secondary hull and, 1 dorsal secondary hull (it is not labled on the picture, but it lists it as "phaser bank T/B" on the ventral bank of the secondary hull). You can see a bump on the dorsal secondary hull I assume is to be the phaser bank, but with the three warp units in the way I don't see how this bank could be of much use.

I too fail to find a second photorp bank.

I have to assume without having my book, when Joseph speaks of two torpedo banks he is referring to the side by side launchers such as we see on the Constitution refit as individual launchers. I only installed one. When I have time I will fix that.

  8. #8
Ok looking at the Constitution and it's torpedo layout a photon bank IS one tube as the image has them labled P/S.
The 5th phaser bank does seem a little crowded there right next to the hull conection/neck, with huge blind spots. T/B = top/bottom, duh, I compleatly failed to catch that...I should really not talk to people at 4-5 am...my brain went to sleep hours before that.
Still, I'm estatic to see Space Dock posts again, Omega1967...oh and consoladate that nebula before enough free hydorgen collects and burns down your house.

That dorsal secondary hull bank will have to be moved, but where too? There is not any really good spot for it on the dorsal hull with the third warp unit in the way, and the other two units sitting so low. I guess you could move it as far aft as you could to just above where the Enterprise-class has its shuttlebay. It would have a little field of arc to play with, but not much.

It looks to me an enemy craft would have a good chance against this class if they could keep to its aft. (But then that seems true of most of the older designs.)

    RE: Dreadnought

I dug out my (really old) copy of the USS Federation deckplans (the dreadnought), & all i can find on them are the Fwd dorsal Photon banks, the Fwd/Ventral phasers, the dorsal port & stb phasers & the ventral phaser banks. There seems to be an dorsal bank on the secondary hull, but it looks like a really dumb place to put phasers as they really do have a limited arc under the third pylon. I can't find any sign of a second photon bank, but i'm still checking the deckplans for a photon storage bay.

Thanks for saving me a tremendous amount of work. I was just about to start work on my own version when I found yours.

    Thanks!
