Angry Trek RPG Resources are splitting up?

I am not impressed! Not in the slightest!

I haven't got any CODA books, pointless me buying any at this time, and I have the suspicion (I'm probably wrong) that this site no longer wants ICON players visiting this site any more. I am losing my temper here and trying my hardest not to show it here on this post.

I realise that this site costs Don money and it is entirely down to him how he runs it. I must admit it is not the way I would have run it, but that is only my opinion.

I can't say anything else nice, cos I am seeing red with fury now, so this may be a apt time to sign off.

All I can suggest is that you calm down...

ICON players have a general RPG forum, and Spacedock area where we can work and share ideas... AND I am sure that ICON will continue to be supported as long a people submit gaming material...

Unfortunatly, its a simple truth that if the majority of people play and support the currently available system, the vast majority of material will support said system.

So rather than loose your rag over events that are totally beyond your control, you should take control back and start writing ICON material.

If all else fails and Don does choose to focus on CODA, it is as you say his choice and his personal money funding the choice. And nobody would stop you setting up an ICON site. And if you ask really nicely, you might be able to link in here too... But pissing Don off isn't likely to help in that regard!

    Right on target, snake.

Nobody said the ICON guys weren't wanted on the forums, but DOn's probably got limited space. He didn't store FASA stuff on here, but its still discussed. He'll probably have limited space, so losing the ICON stuff to make room for CODA is no unreasonable, if he's going to work with the new system.

He pays the bills, he can do what he wants. If Decipher cuts a deal to help him keep the site up, so much the better, IMO.

I'm seeing a LOT of ungrateful attitudes on these boards.

Perhaps there is more to this than meets the eye. Yes, Don does foot the bill for the site. I have no clue how much that takes, but if it's on the expensive end then perhaps Don is looking for some relief. If Decipher is contributing cash to cover the costs associated with running the site, then I think they are entitled to some say-so in the contents of the site.

I think we should all just wait and see how things shake out.

Yeah well............I still feel as though a eviction order has been served on all the ICON players.

Can you blame me for being extremily pissed?

No; but we can blame you for being overly reactionary when all the facts haven't been presented yet.

Well, Owen is going to be storing the icon stuff, and (id assume) the spacedock stuff. Assuming the forums themselves stay the same as they are, i see no problem at all.
I'd hate to see the forums split into coda forums here and icon forums over at Owens site. But i understand if theres some shrewd deal with decipher that neccesitates that.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! Calm down, folks. ICON players are not being evicted - the general Trek Roleplaying area is still here, and Don went to considerable effort to find a good home for the ICON content of the main site. Freaking out and overreacting is really counterproductive.

Let's face it - ICON has been out of print for nearly two years now, and Don has gone to a lot of work and expense to keep the spirit alive.

To use an outdated bit of slang...word!

While I can certainly understand and sympathize with those who are unhappy about the upcoming change - I myself tend to favor Icon over Coda - I can also hopefully understand what would lead Don to come to a pragmatic, sensible decision regarding the future direction this site should take if it is to thrive. I've undertaken one or two not-for-profit endeavors in my time, and I can tell you that the gratitude of those who benefit from your labors, along with the knowledge of a job well done, is the most enduring reward you can hope for. Constructive critical commentary is always welcome - and encouraged - but in a situation like this, I think it's best to acknowledge that, at least currently, Icon has now become largely a fan property: discussion on Icon/Coda issues will still take place here, and if needed we can set up our own independent sites, create home-brew rules and adapt Coda to Icon (as I have done and am doing), while this site continues to address a game system that is still being published and will continue to be so in the forseeable future.

It's change: nothing stays static or unmoving for long. If it does, it's dead.

If I had a dime for everytime I've said this...I'd have 50 cents....

So what is the gripe anyway?

Owen is a HUGE fan of ICON; if anyone can do this material justice, its him.

I think separating the content is brilliant, though it does mean that I'll have to go to two different sites (God forbid!).

I am all in favor of the move. Way to go.

    mactavish out.

P.S. Oddly enough, qerlin and I actually agree on something for a change!
Our country's past progress has been the result, not of the mass mind applying average intelligence to the problems of the day, but of the brilliance and dedication of wise individuals who applied their wisdom to advance the freedom and the material well-being of all of our people.

Well lets see, I have 9 internet explorer windows open now and I am on the light load. Usually I have 9-15 IE windows open and 4-5 Mozilla windows. So no skin off my nose.

I think it is a great idea.
