Unless they do the trade-in thing again (original release and extended release) I'll probably hold out for the extended version in October or November (whenever it'll come out).
It'll make for a long (but really fun) day watching the extended versions of Fellowship of the Ring and Two Towers before going to watch Return of the King the night it premiers. I'm very much looking forward to it!

...oh no...
They're not going for that malarkey again, are they?
Their should only be a single release, extended, as Jackson intended. This other *^$%#@( is, to say the least, annoying...
Well, believe it or not, there are people who actually don't want the extended edition.Originally posted by Ramage

(I'm not one of them, though. Gimme both versions, please.)

While I'd much rather have the extended edition, I can imagine that there might be people who'd rather just have the regular theatrical release (Jacksonian theatre-going purists, perhaps ).
In any event, I know that I'll pick up the initial release, if for no other reason than that I don't want to have to wait the extra time with no copy of the Two Towers on DVD.
Still, I hope that there will be some sort of trade-in set up (like they did at our local Hastings video store for the Fellowship of the Ring). While I enjoyed the movie, I really don't need two copies of it.

I would just be happy if they made the extended versiopn fit on one disk
I can live without the set driver's and caterer's commentary frankly
