The success of the SS-315 class (heavy) destroyer prompted Central HQ to commission a second class of the new sub-type. Freighter specialist Gezz Design Bureau won the contract, producing a solid design that was faster at impulse and more powerful at close range.
As of 2375, the GS-641 has assumed the primary assault role first developed for the 315. Central HQ expects to improve the ship's structure in a 2378 refit.
