    Returning to Topic

It is only modular if it can return to a place capable of swapping out packages.

And out of curiousity, why did you discount the Excelsiors Aslan?

I discounted them on the same grounds as the Miranda.

I don't think that 70 year old ships shoudl be part of a modern fleet.

Especially when we have seen Constellations and Ambassadors.

They should have been the work horses of the fleet IMHO.

As to the modular nature of the Nebula.

Look at the back end of the Phoenix vs the Farragut or Endeavor,.

There is no way a ship could do that kind of swap without a ship yard, they are completely different connections and design.

    YMMV

    AslanC, cut that out!

My campaign has been on hold ever since the crew lost their Ambassador class Santa Maria. I've already decided that their next ship will be the Nebula class Bonaventure. Dedication plaque quote:

I agree that the module swap needs a ship yard myself.

I figured that would be your reasoning behind the Excelsior though I have always felt it has the same feel as the Nebula and roughly the same crew size so it keeps the options open.

I'd go into more but I need food...

Just can't reconcile such and old ship being front line or even common place.

    Is the UFp that cheap?

Maybe they have the same mind set as the US Army. If it isn't broken don't fix it.

I mean look at our boots . . . the basic issue boot hasn't changed since just after the Korean War. And we haven't even authorized the usage of the Chocrane 3s

But back to the topic at hand. I voted for the Nebula. Smaller then the Galaxy, thus offering those little limitations and quirks that you may not get with the Galaxy. Furthermore, last I checked they don't have that problem with the self-exploding warp core.

Oh, and did I mention that it's modular?

But how about other vessels? Ambassador, Akira . . .

Why is it whenever you ask "Red or Green?" people have to say "Blue. Purple. Yellow. Off White."?

Everyone has their personal favorites. As for the Excelsior, I guess I have a different ideal about the length of a ship's span of service.

While I could see the Miranda ending it's service life and getting relegated to backwater areas until they are up for decommissioning, I've always seen the Excelsior as still quite functional. It still serves on the frontier but has been relegated to being more of a workhorse behind the scenes then the FLASH one shows up with to impress the diplomats of a new world.

The Ambassador-class is another starship that is following in the footsteps of the Excelsior. I tend to prefer smaller ships though as a player, I just tend to find them more intimate after an odd fashion...so that being said I repeat my choice: The Nebula.

I know, some people just never give ya a straight answer.

    I'd suggest Intrepid class BTW

Seriously though, Nebula still gets my vote.

Remind me to flush Karg out an airlock.

Hey Aslan, maybe you should give each of your players an assignment. Give them 10 starship personnel or civilians each to generate. Provide some basic guidelines of what each is to do and if applicable current rank and then let them go to town.

Six players and you have 60 NPCs to use that the players being familiar with some of them could have a nucleus of friends or acquaintances to interact with if you have them also add into the personality and history profile how their PC knows each.

    Regards,
    CKV.
