Hey, I know EXACTLY where your coming from. Some things are more important! Like Star Trek (Kidding)Originally posted by AslanC
As some of you may have seen my Aunt Carrie is in the hostpital right now.
As such I have to delay the opening of the game for the foreseeable future, with the gods blessings though she should recover and I will have more time to think.
The game is NOT cancelled.
Just delayed
Best wishes for her. Whenever you start is whenever
So as you all know my Aunt died in the end this past week.
I am doing allright but must admit I feel tired every day.
Once my mother was surrounded by family, I allowed myself to sit back and sort of take it all in and it floored me.
I want to run this game for your guys, but I am just so overwhlemed by life right now I can't see it happening anytime soon.
I don't know what to do.
I don't want to let you guys down.
I don't want to make a rash decision I will regret later either.
Thoughts? Input?
Help?
Dude take all the time you need. We'll still be here when you have found your equilibrium. The nature of life and the loss of a loved one is way more important then some game on a level that cannot even be qualified.
And speaking from experience, trying to run a game when your heart and your head is not in it leads to some rather ugly ends for the game and the people in it. Resentment toward the game being common.
A game is supposed to be fun for everyone not a job or a chore to be done just because one feels they owe it so.
So go take the time you need to find your center and if at that point you want to do the game, drop a note here everyone of us will come running I am sure.
Regards,
CKV.
I completely agree with Capt. K. Vaughn here.
Take all the time you need to recover from your loss, Aslan.

I'd say press pause on the game. You've got a grieving process to work through, and plenty of real life demands on your time and energy. If you can't fit in a new recreation item right now, that's totally understandable. Don't waste your energy on running a game if you don't have the energy to waste.
We can survive the wait.

Okay I need to get back at this. I need to figure this out and move forward.
The longer I wait the less likely it is that I will actually pull it off as my interest will wane and flag.
I am torn by two ideas though and I need some feedback.
1 idea is to run it as is, set after the Dominion War (and Nemesis)
the other idea is to tweak it and run it post Star Trek VI.
Now if we were to do that bewarned that certain things owuld be changed and certain liberties would be taken with Canon.
So... what do you guys think?
Are you totally committed to it being Post DW
Or are you interested in trying something a little different, but maybe just as much fun?
I await your feedback.
Go with what interests you the most as you are the GM, the foundation of the game - if your interest isn't held then the game will end.

CKV.
Damn the Canon and full fun ahead!Originally posted by AslanC

Well if you take liberties with canon... then go ahead! Could be even more fun that way ("wait... isn't this supposed to happen 50 years from now ???" "Not in my game")

I don't mind either, although I'd want to change the character's background or even concept to fit the new setting.
No power in the 'verse can stop me.

My preference would be for post-DW. The TNG-DS9 era and beyond is where my headspace is at the moment (since that's when I'm running my game.)Originally posted by AslanC

That said, if the change of setting makes it easier for you to run a game (or the vast majority of people say "Movie era! Woo Hoo!") I can probably make the adjustment. It'll take a bit of work, but it's doable.
Just warn me so I can dig the BIG hammer out in time...

All of us will probably need to do some work on our characters if it goes to the Movie era at least in background and such but that is easy enough to do.

I think the only real thing that will change for my character would be the ship he commands.Beyond that, my character is good to go, for the most part!
Of course, AC, you know my preference would be for 2294 over 2379.![]()
