Movie-Era Phasers
Hello again, friends. Long time no see.
One of the small things that bugged me about the Player's Guide was that it generalized the 23rd-century Type II phaser pistols; that is, that the same stats that the classic Type II uses were also to be used for the Movie Era weapons. As a result, I decided to do write ups for the three Movie Era phasers. Criticize and correct as necessary.
Starfleet Type II-A (“Type IV”) Phaser Pistol
In 2270, Starfleet R&D decided to replace the ageing Type II phaser, introducing the more compact and
powerful Type II-A (at the time known as the “Type-IV,” later renamed). Like the original Type II, the Type II-
A consists of the new Type I-A attached to a large pistol-grip frame. This phaser uses a small, cylindrical
power cell, inserted at the top of the pistol, just behind the Type I-A. In addition, the Type II-A uses a wide-
beam emitter; this permits the weapon to use wide beam fire covering a larger area (15 meters), and use
less energy in the process (only twice the number of charges to use wide beam settings).
Starfleet Type I-A Phaser
Settings: 1, 3, 5, 6, 8
Energy: 120 charges
Range: 5/12/24/48/+2 meters
Starfleet Type II-A Phaser
Settings: 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 10
Energy: 250 charges
Range: 5/25/45/85/+5 meters
Starfleet Type II-B Phaser Pistol
In 2280, Starfleet introduced what would become one its most famous, powerful and versatile weapons
until the 24th-Century era: the Type II-B Phaser. Styled after the original Type II, the Type II-B has the full
range of settings from Light Stun up to their maximums (unlike other 23rd-Century era phasers, which
have fewer setting). Like its contemporaries, the Type II-B is basically a Type I-B phaser snapped into the
Type II pistol-frame.
Starfleet Type I-B Phaser
Settings: 1-8
Energy: 150 charges
Range: 5/15/30/45/+3 meters
Starfleet Type II-B Phaser
Settings: 1-12
Energy: 350 charges
Range: 5/20/50/100/+5 meters
Starfleet Type II-C Phaser Pistol
(“Heavy Phaser,” “Assault Phaser,” “Marine’s Phaser”)
In 2288, Starfleet introduced a fourth Type II model phaser to its arsenal: the Type II-C. Issued primarily to
Starfleet Marine and Ground Forces units (most ships have at least a small compliment of them, but some
ships, like Enterprise-A, Enterprise-B and Excelsior, carry them almost exclusively over the other two Type II
models), the Type II-C is sometimes referred to as the Assault Phaser. Since it is designed primarily for
heavy combat use, it is a large, heavy, rugged weapon. The powerpack, inserted into the base of the grip
like most phasers, is one of the largest in use, with almost an almost endless supply of energy. These
packs are marked with Starfleet insignia and ID numbers. These packs are all but necessary, since this
phaser only uses high powered, high consumption settings. Like its predecessors, this phaser is still
basically a Type I-style phaser attached to a pistol-grip frame, but the Type I-C is actually hidden with the
front portion of the weapon, which slides forward to reveal the Type I-C and to check the weapon’s
readiness. Another oddity: the Type II-C emits a blue beam when fired; most Starfleet phasers emit a red
beam.
Starfleet Type I-C Phaser
Settings: 3, 9
Energy: 100 charges
Range: 5/7/15/30/+1 meters
Starfleet Type II-C Phaser
Settings: 3, 6, 7, 9, 12, 16
Energy: 500 charges
Range: 5/20/50/100/+5 meters
