I'm excited to see it, but I'm not geeking out over it. I've only seen one trailer for it, and it looks really impressive. I'm not clear on why it's such big deal that Hugo Weaving's character can duplicate himself; I assumed he was a program and could be duped ad infinitum.

Ah, well. My wife and I will be seeing it Saturday afternoon and I'll figure it out then.

My greatest fear is that this will be like Highlander 2.

The first movie was good enough (despite the non-acting ability of Keanu), but did not really scream out in need for a sequel. The story was told and the revolution, one assumes, takes place. No real need to watch for the particulars at that point. OTOH, I know folks who would like a sequel. The choice, as they say, is yours.

I have a feeling the second film, sadly, will be a lot of special effects with little extra content. The trailer certainly did not build confidence. I saw a lot of jumping, a lot of special effects madness, but little to indicate that there is a strong base story.

These are personal opinions only. For those of you who end up going to and enjoying the sequel, I am very happy. Hey, just 'cuz it's not for me doesn't mean it's not for someone else.

I'm going to watch it tonight, but I'm not really expecting much, aside from flashy special effects and cool fight scenes. Of course, that's really all I expected from the first one, and I left it pleasantly surprised. So, who knows...it could happen again. At the same time, if I get the cool fight scenes and flashy special effects, I'll be happy. Heck, it doesn't take that much to impress me when I go watch a movie!

If nothing else, it'll be nice to be able to get out of the house for a couple of hours, to take my mind off of finals and graduation and all the crap that'll be following in the weeks to come...

The first movie creeped me out. There's no way I'm going to see the sequel. But to those who do, enjoy!

I don't dig the whole Matrix thing. Just cool people wearing black shooting and kicking one another for 2 hours. On top of that its a pale rip-off of Hong Kong movies. Well IDIC I guess.

I have to agree with Mr Plissken. I like plot and character in my movies. Matrix was nice to look at but not a lot else.

Whoa... detractors already (albeit mild ones compared to those of some other Sci Fi franchises); it hasn't even come out yet.

Oh well, I for one have purchased tickets for tomorrow morning's show (as I have a late night class tonight for the general premier night showing) and I am looking forward to seeing the movie with She Who Must Be Obeyed.

I too shall see it . . . and will spend the money to see it in a really good theater if possible.

But the online reviews of those who have seen the screening are mixed at best.

The Hype of this thing is humungous right up there with right before the first Star Wars Prequal came out . . . or any other movie where there is a line (you know one of those uberlines that go on for atleast 30 yards) 45 minutes before the next showing.

I was listening to AM 640 up in Toronto just a little while ago, and the afternoon host was quoting a number of local newspaper reviewers who had seen the movie and were giving it the "ehh" treatment. Honestly, this is one of the reasons I try to stay away from the hype as much as possible, especially with something like this where the anticipation has been building up for as long and as intensely as it has. When SW:ANH came out, it was tabula rasa - we had no previous base to compare it to. Similarly, I'm going to try and enjoy this as much as I can without dragging in the "Well-it-didn't-thrill-me-like-the-first-one-did" blues. You can only have the thrill of losing your virginity once; after that it's all about picking new people, times, places, handcuffs...

Reviews are hardly ever kind to Sci Fi (or action films), I'd think twice about trusting anything that the mainstream press has to say about a Sci Fi movie. Remember what they said about the first Matrix? paned it big time. This time around? Your Toronto folks said "ehh" but the Detroit Free Press gave it 3 out of 4 stars (with a characteristic "whoa" on the front page). You know what? I still don't trust either review either way. Matrix 2 might be better, might be worse, might not knock my socks off, it might blow them away, but I'm not going to let someone from the press who neither likes nor understands science fiction make up my mind about it.

True enough, now that I think about it; the Toronto newspapers, regardless of their individual editorial slant - with the exception of the Sun, which I don't read much - tend to lean toward the if-it-ain't-Merchant-Ivory-we-ain't-havin'-none-of-it school of thought. A great friend of mine once said that the only real job a critic has is to answer one question: Is it a good story? A disquieting number of them seem to think that it's their job to make sure that Harry Potter and the Bedpan of Death has enough Decarte references to form the backbone of a Master's thesis. Although I still intend to try to keep myself an arm's length from the hype monster, you're right in mentioning that there are few critics - at least up this way - who can be trusted to keep their analysis simple and to the point.

Maybe true, but have you ever tried to open more than 10 windows of Graphics Suit or Photoshop at a time? Several Hugos are probably slower than just one.
