    Purchasing Professional Abilities

How do I purchase other Professions’ Professional Abilities? What would be the total cost?

If you want an ability from another basic profession you will have to buy the Innovative edge, which "buys you the right" to purchase such an ability. In this case you would pay 5 picks, 2 for the edge and 3 for the ability.
Note that Innovative doesn't waive any prerequisites for the ability you want, so in some cases you will have to repeat this process 2 or 3 times to get a tier 2 or 3 ability, buying the prerequisites first.

If it's an ability of an elite profession you are after you will have to enter that profession, as Innovative only allows for taking basic profession abilities outside your own profession.

Generally if you want a whole slew of abilities from some profession, it's most cost-effective to switch into that profession (for 5 picks), then spend your next few advancements slurping up those yummy professional abilities.

Does this mean it's possible to switch between base professions (like, for instance, Rogue and Soldier) ? I don't remember if this was discussed before, but I thought it was only possible to switch between Elite Professions.

Elite Professions you can switch between but Professions you can not. You can have only 1 Profession but you can multi-Elite Profession.
    Hey my opinion

Without Star Trek: The Original Series there would be no other Trek Series or Movies regardless of shows rewriting the Series past.

In LotR you can switch between base professions for 5 picks. Its reasonble to adopt that for Trek, IMHO.
