I had a 99 ASVAB, too...but that was 16 years ago...

And 68 (or a 72, I can't recall...out of 80) on the NFQT....enough to get me into Nuke A-School...

Well, ASVAB stands for Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery. (Not sure about the other acronyms). ASVAB is graded on a percentile scale (not a percentage.)

My ASVAB score was 82. At the time I took it, the minimum you needed to get into the Army was 42. . . . Of course, a score of 42 guaranteed you the job of Truck Driver.

My MOS was 13E: Cannon Fire Direction Control Specialist. (BOOM!)

DLPT: defense language proficiency test

I acutally meant the DLAB: wich is the defense language aptitute battery. 128's pretty good -- gets you into cat 4+ languages (arabic, chinese, etc...)

Okay, a pretty good web site had the following which shows what ASVAB tests score mean, and what areas your tested on. I was a 96B which requires a ST (Skilled Technical) score of 105 or higher. I scored a 115 (for whatever that's worth). I scored perfect in General Science, and Word Knowledge Paragraph Comprehension... Did okay in math... and really crappy in Mechanical Comprehension. Here's the info below:

The Army converts the ASVAB subtest scores into 10 composite score areas, known as "line scores." The line scores determine what job(s) an individual qualifies for. The ASVAB subtests are: General Science (GS); Arithmetic Reasoning (AR); Word Knowledge (WK); Paragraph Comprehension (PC); Numerical Operations (NO); Coding Speed (CS); Auto and Shop Information (AS); Mathematics Knowledge (MK); Mechanical Comprehension (MC); Electronics Information (EI); and Sum of Word Knowledge and Paragraph Comprehension (VE). Army Line Scores are determined as follows:

CL—Clerical—VE+AR+MK

CO—Combat—AR+CS+AS+MC

EL—Electronics—GS+AR+MK+EI

FA—Field Artillery—AR+CS+MK+MC

GM—General Maintenance—GS+AS+MK+EI

GT—General Technical—VE+AR

Been waaaay too long since I took it. I did pretty well on it. Enough so that the Army folks who were giving the test were shocked that I was

A) Enlisting

B) in the Marines

and

C) as an 0311 (Marine Light Infantry, 11B to the Army)

The Sgt. giving the test wanted me to talk to the ROTC recruiter from UNM before signing on the dotted line with the Marines. Then again, maybe if I hadn't done so well on the ASVAB, the recruiters might have been less inclined to skip the echocardiogram during my pre-enlistment screening and saved me about a month and a half of light duty in San Diego...

Ended up a 16P then a 14R, both of which really only needed a 60 or so

It was so long ago that I don't remember anything about it, except that it seemed that I had every recruiter for every armed service pestering me almost daily up until the accident which prevented me from accepting any of their offers. Before that, I had been seriously considering enlisting.

Amazing what a little patch of frozen water can accomplish.

If I remember right, I scored in the top 1 or 2% on the ASVAB. I clearly recall some of my AFOQT scores from ROTC: I averaged 96%, with 95% for pilot and 97% for navigator.
