Possible NX-Era game I would like to run

    Hello,

Not too long ago, I was surfing the web ( I was bored that day) and came across an email type Star Trek RPG that takes place in the Andromeda Galaxy. This got me to thinking about creating a game in the NX Class Era where a ship (maybe the NX-03 ) is sent out on a mission and thrown into the Andromeda Galaxy, some 2,000,000 light years from home.
Does this sound too cheesy, or a rip off of Voyager?
Also, how could they be "thrown" that far. I thought about the subspace tunnels that the Vadwair(spelling) had in a Voyager episode. anyways, i was interested in your ideas. thanks!

Well you could send 'em there any way you like really. You're the GM, so you have carte blanche

Wormholes, subspace rifts, Q, or something else. Take your pick

And no, it doesn't sound cheesy.

It is definitely not cheesy, whether it is a rip off of Voyager or not is all in one's opinion. I loved the conept behind Voyager, it was great. Being in the NX era it would be even better.

You have to think about several things though...

Do the laws of Physics still pertain to everything in the Andromeda Galaxy? Do they work the same? Is everything inverse or not? YOu must create the physics laws of this Galaxy. Now I like the idea but it will be a lot more work for you the Narrator. I may steal this idea though.

    Enterprise Season 2 Spoilers Present

I don't see why the laws of physics would be any different in another galaxy, so long as it is the same universe (like the Andromeda Galaxy)

Getting them catapulted is the easy part. I wonder though if another galaxy is overkill? It might be interesting to do something like put them something like 10 years away from home - something like Homer's Odyssey on their journey home. This way if you ever want a familiar species, you can drop one in. Also, they would still be out of touch with Earth, given they would not have access to the Communication Relay Beacons that have been used on Enterprise.

There's some spoilers regarding using NX-03 below. Stop reading if you don't want to be spoiled regarding the Season 2 Enterprise finale.

In the season 2 finale they showed NX--02 being built, still 14 months away from completion. Of course you can manipulate canon as you see fit.

If you have ever read 2001: A Space Odyssey you could do something much like the gateway that was on one of the moons. That would definitely prove as a method of travel.

I see there several problems right now. First of all my game is set on NX-03

To be serious. You would have to think about the crews motivation. Returning home is so much unlikely, with their speed it would take more than ten thousand years. And they cannot hope to reach them because with only 80 people you cannot found a civilisation, you need at least 200 out of genetic reasons.

thus I would use somekind of 'enemy' who transports them there and the final goal could be to find that enemy. Or make it Q as suggested above, who set them a goal to reach before sending them back, etc...

Alternatively, you could send your ship on the other side of ourGalaxy... after all, I'm sure there are a lot of areas that are not explored at the time of TNG, so this leaves room for lots of unexplored places. For instance, they could end up in the Gamma Quadrant, in an area the Dominion has not invaded(yet ?) , or a Borg-free sector in the Delta Quadrant (hey, the poor guys meeting the Kazons), or on the opposite side of the Alpha Quadrant (far beyond the future Cardassian Union's outer reaches).

For the matter of losing hope to come home... the way I understand it, wormholes can indeed send people anywhere (and anywhen), so if they came through a wormhole, they could hope to find another one to get back.
