    Question U.S.S Constellation Registry Number

    Hey guys,

Do you guys think the first Constellation class ship the U.S.S Constellation would have a registry of NX, or NCC?
I'm thinking it would be NX as it is the prototype for the class. Even the Defiant was an NX in the beginning and it reused a constitution class name as well.

    Thanks

Look at the ships that we've seen use the NX- prefix: NX-01 Enterprise, NX-2000 Excelsior, and NX-whatever Defiant. Each of these ships are revolutionary prototypes/proof-of-concept vessels.

As soon as the transwarp program ended, the Excelsior was given a standard NCC registry. IIRC, the ships of the Defiant-class also use NCC registries. It's quite possible that the NX program will probably remain so until after the formation of the Federation.

Now, while the 4-nacelle design of the Constellation is certainly innovative in 2284, is it such a revolutionary concept that it warrants an NX designation? Personally, I'd say no.

NX to start (NX-1974 I think) and then at a later date NCC. That's what they did with the Excelsior...and yes it is cannon...watch Trek 3 then 6. I presume they'll eventually do that with NX-01.

Although Sea Tyger is probably right about the "NX' program, I read somewhere that the "NX" designation stands for "Naval Experimental". I would think that only if the ship is of some radically new design it would get the NX designation. I don't agree that the first Ambassador class should be an NX ship...there's nothing revolutionary about her. The first Prometheus class ship is another story.
