I voted for turn based strategy, though turn based tactical would be more accurate. I'd prefer real-time tactical & strategic games if they weren't almost all based on the Command & Conquer/Alpha Centauri model.

Civ III all the way
I love TBS games -- 3X forever!
My favourite game by far is Age of Wonders. It has distinct RPG qualities, but it's mainly a turn-based/resource gathering fantasy game.

Real Time Strategy games are nifty.
I place Total Annihilation squarely in the "Magnum Opus" category. I do not think there has been a better RTS interface before or since and who doesn't like hundreds of robots running around all over the place? It's verra niiiice.

Best Real time strat games are the Total War series, Shogun and Medieval. They are also, apparently, planning a Roman based game as well for the series.
Other: Practically all of the Above except Sport and abstract.
Although I lean toward TBS like the Civ series

I voted "other".
My favourite kind of computer game by far are Adventures. I started with early graphic adventures by Lucasarts (then still Lucasfilm Games) and Sierra Online.
Then I discovered text adventures by Legend Entertainment (Spellcasting 101 - 301, Gateway, etc.) and am now busy looking for old Infocom adventures on the web.
Don't much care for either strategy or "roleplaying" games. I do enjoy a nice shooter or racing game on consoles, though.
No power in the 'verse can stop me.
"You know this roleplaying thing is awfully silly, let's just roll the dice." - overheard during a D&D 3E game.
Rather hard to say, since I'm a sort of computer game addict. I guess it would be roleplaying, since they are the games I spent the most time playing (finishing Fallout2 six times must have helped to that count... ).
Close behind would be RTS and FPS games. I don't care much for sports, racing and flight simulator games, but I enjoyed a few turn based strategy and simulation games (Sim City 2K).
And I swore to avoid any MMORPG in any form (except Diablo2, which doesn't quite fall into that category), for fear of dying from sleep deprivation. This could also happen to me if a Fallout-like game happening in the ST universe was released.

I'd have to say some of the above. I don't play a lot of games (spend most of my time writing), but I've enjoyed Pharaoh and Caesar III quite a lot, along with Age of Kings. I also have a PS1 and a N64, and have had a lot of fun with Gran Turismo, Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, and a couple others.
I also really enjoyed X-Wing and Tie Fighter for the older IBM PCs, but I can't get the games to work on my P4.

The Civilization series is my favorite. I started playing Civ2 again after a long break a few days ago. I bought Civ3, but it wouldn't run on my current computer. I'm planning on getting a new computer soon. I hope the Civ3 editor will do what I want.
I like Alpha Centauri, I plan to play it again after a few more games of Civ. I guess I should try Civ1 again. I wish Civ2 had the end of game map feature that Civ1, Civ3, and SMAC have. I never played Civ1 or Colonization until a while after I had Civ2. Colonization was easy. I don't know when I'll get around to playing it again.
I have Call to Power, I haven't played it much. It's not as intuitive as True Civ. But it does have some features I like.
I may try Starcraft again some time. I'm only a few missions into it. I don't like games that learn from my mistakes. If I can win once, I want to be able to win again.
