    Romulan Special Forces

    What I am trying to do is to come up with differing types of professional templates for the various Romulan Special Forces Units. I just don't think the Standard Special Forces Temp would be representative of them all. I'm looking for some ideas on how the following should look;

    1) Tal Shava (Imperial Marines)= I'm thinking the soldier template is good enough, but not sure.

    2)Teth Koros (Imperial Shrikes)- Sort of a Marine Force Recon, specializing in infiltration and sabotage.

    3)Ventava Legion- These are the "fire and forget" guys of the Romulan Military, the elite of the elite.

    4) The Praetorian Guard- Didn't someone make a Coda version of the PG? I can't find it.

    I have a few ideas of my own, but wanted to tap the think tank, so...IDEAS! Please.

    Troops specializing in boarding actions?Maybe of the sort where they blast their way in from outside the ship's hull?Not very Trek-like though.Or some kind of AirCav unit?

    As far as I know, only the ICON version I wrote exists and has not yet been covered...

    They are on the Venture web page;
    My ICON RPG stuff

    or more specifically;
    http://www.theventure.freeserve.co.uk/psion.htm

    And have been submitted to Owen for Memory ICON

    If anyone wants to take a crack at putting them into CODA, feel free.

    Here's a shot:

    Noting that Starship Officer is the favored base profession for Romulans, I went to the Security Officer elite profession and started modifying. I decided to assume the character takes Psionic Potential for personal development, and purposefully left the psionic skills out of the professional skills to reflect that they would be more difficult to develop, given the Romulans' flawed/limited knowledge of the mental arts. YMMV

    <b>Romulan Psion</b>

    <b>Prerequisites:</b> Psionic Edge AND either Starship Duty or Influence (Intimidate) 4+, Computer Use 3+, Inquire 3+, Impersonate 3+, System Operation 1+.

    <b>Attributes:</b> Both Presence and Perception are vital to the Psion's information-gathering role, and the player chooses which will be the primary favored attribute. As with other starship elite professions, Strength, Agility or Vitality makes a good choice for a second favored attribute.

    <b>Reactions:</b> As they often deal in deception, Savvy is the profession's favored reaction.

    <b>Professional Skills:</b> Impersonate, Influence, Inquire, Investigate, Observe, System Operation.

    <b>Professional Abilities:</b>
    <b>Tier 1:</b>
    <b>Eyes and Ears:</b> Because their senses are finely honed and because their training prepares them to be vigilant in the pursuit of information, the Psion automatically gains a specialty upon acquiring the Observe skill, and they gain a +2 bonus to Observe tests.
    <b>Ways of Making Them Talk:</b> When making Inquire (Interrogate) tests, the Psion gains an affinity bonus equal to half her Influence skill level, rounded up.

    <b>Tier 2:</b>
    <b>Master of the Psyche:</b> The Psion's understanding of the mind grants them an edge in social situations. When making a Savvy reaction test, the Psion rolls an extra die (3d6), but keeps the highest two rolls. <b>Prerequisite:</b> Eyes and Ears.
    <b>Multiple Sources:</b> The Psion knows better than to put all her eggs in one basket when it comes to information sources. Once per game session, the Psion may reroll a Streetwise test and keep the better of the two rolls. <b>Prerequisite:</b> Ways of Making Them Talk.

    <b>Tier 3:</b>
    <b>Psionic Mastery:</b> The Psion has achieved a mastery level of control over their powers, and may be approached by the empire to train up-and-coming Psions. Choose one psionic power. When the Psion makes skill tests with that skill, ignore all psionic penalties. <b>Prerequisite:</b> Master of the Psyche.

    <b>Professional Development Package</b>
    <b>Psion</b>
    Skills: Athletics +1, Computer Use (Encryption) +2, Energy Weapons +2, Impersonate (Undercover Work) +1, Influence (Intimidate) +3, Inquire (Interrogate) +2, Repair +1, System Operation (Security Systems) +2, one Unarmed Combat skill +1

    Pick 5: +1 to any Professional Skill

    Pick 1 Edge: Alert, Blends In, Competitive, Psionic Focus, Shrewd

    Play Fair Phantom. Deconn might not have read all your previous statements relating to Nemesis and how it doesn't match your Romulans...

    However equally fair, as Shock-Troops, the Remans do indeed fit under these 'special forces' remit, just not in your game...

    1) Sure.

    2) Ahh, talk about fair weather shook troops, as long as the lights are out then they do their job. If the lights are on then they have to make saving throw vs sunlight. Not very good special assault troops if you ask me.

    I agree, with that. Did not make much sense to me. I just need flash grenades and they take out my enemy or use bright light. That is pretty bad weakness but I guess they wanted a Vampire Bat styled race without the blood drinking...or wings.
    Hey my opinion

    Without Star Trek: The Original Series there would be no other Trek Series or Movies regardless of shows rewriting the Series past.

    So far what I am seeing is helping me alot with my non Reman tainted Romulans. (You like Remans use them I am not). With the Alliance in effect it is interesting to think where the Romulan Military is being trained in now. To work more with the Allies? Work and Against their Allies? Just vs. Dominion Threat? or etc.
    Personally I am trying to just tweak my Professions here and there for such an occation.
    So far this thread is helping alot.

    I like this for the most part but I have a suggestion. Make the Psion an Elite Profession. Take out Starship Duty Prerequesite even though Starship Duty is the favored Profession it is not the only one they can be. I doubt seriously groups like the Tal'Shir and Romulan Senators would fall under Starship Officer Profession in their designs.
    You can take a Regular Elite Profession with Advancement and Prerequisites beyond one Elite Profession.
