    Stardates

    STARDATES

In 2322 Starfleet Command and the Federation Council decided in the light of the development of faster warp drives that the OCU was replaced by the MCU. As Stardates were a means to keep a timekeeping standard regardless of FTL travel it was decided that a new Stardate system would be introduced alongside the MCU scale. The MCU and Revised Stardate Ranges (RSR) came into effect Federation wide on 1st January 2323. All stardates prior to the 31st December 2322 would be on the Original Stardate Ranges (OSR).

We have all your working biros and we're not afraid to use them.

Leave a box of used postit notes and a box of paperclips inside the filling cabinet and things won't get nasty.

I take the point of view that 1000 Stardates equals one Solar year, which is not exactly the same as a Terran calendar year. The calendar year attempts to rationalise a Solar year (365.2425 days long) with an even number of days, necessitating an intercalary day approximately every 4 years (exceptions every 100 years and exceptions to the exceptions every 400 years, etc...). Thus, the XX000.00 SD coincides with the New Year at exactly midnight Zulu roughly every 4 years (not exactly, but we're getting into seconds per year). Thus, I use the following scheme:
