    Starships and Narrator Guide differences

Particularly for the Defiant class, which in the Starships book seems to be woefully underpowered all of the sudden. I could be misunderstanding the rules/stats, but it seems to me that pulse phasers should be doing a lot more damage.

Also noted that the Starships version omitted the cloaking device; wondering if this is supposed to be a "standardized" version of the class, as opposed to the DS9 version.

Whatever the reason, it seems to me that a Heavy Escort designed to counter the Borg threat should pack more of a wallop than, say, the Intrepid class.

True, especially given that Sisko's line in the The Search Pt 1 is that whilst officially she's a Heavy Escort in truth she's a warship. Nothing more and nothing less. She's basically over gunned and over powered.

The Stats in Starships are the generic ones for your bog standard (if there is such thing) Defiant Class vessel.

I also agree that the Starship's Defiant (to paraphrase Sisko) lacks teeth. I've been meaning to try and improve the design myself but time has not been kind to me recently.

We have all your working biros and we're not afraid to use them.

Leave a box of used postit notes and a box of paperclips inside the filling cabinet and things won't get nasty.

Actually, the NG version of the Definat class also omitted the Cloaking Device (except as noted for tghe Defiant herself in the descriptive text). EIther way, the stats given are for the standard Defiant-class ship, with any modifications noted for individual ships.
