    Could use some suggestions for the 1st game of my NX-02

    This coming saturday is the first game of the NX-02. the only problem is that I can't think of an idea on what to throw at them. The game is basically an exploration setting and I want the first game to set the tone of the following games. any ideas/help would be appreciated. (BTW I have never narrated a game before so help there would be nice too) thanks

    Maybe a colony needs a ship to protect them from raiders ?

    The small groups of raiders are running around a star cluster . The raiders are attacking several aleins worlds are under attack too .


    Maybe this the begin of the UFP ?

    You said it was an exploration series, right?

    Okay, so in an exploration series, you need to discover new things, races and planets. So, I would suggest having the first episode revolve around first contact with a new alien species. Perhaps in conjuction with Toadmage's idea of colony under attack. The attackers could be the new aliens, who, for whatever reason, have claimed the planet and want the humans removed.

    One of the cool things you can do with Enterprise is use a 'never before seen' alien who is infact a well known regular.

    Maybe you could have first contact with the Lurians (Morn) - I don't think you could contradict any canon with that one!

    Maybe another good idea could be to do Voyager on a much smaller scale.. There are several systems which are known to be in the Federation wich fall WAY out of the way, which using modern (TNG) warp drive would take 5 years or more to reach. For example Antares is over 600 lightyears away, will be later in the Federation and would take about 5 years to reach at the NX's top speed of Warp 5. (old scale)

    One scenario could be that it is field testing improvements in it's engine to try and reach speeds greater than warp 5 - when it causes an unstable wormhole and is stranded 5 years from earth. they then have to figure out a way to get home, and maybe they meet some of the distant relations you never normally meet in trek (which gives you alot of creative scope). Perhaps this race is beign oppressed or attacked by an alien species and in return they give aid supplies and maybe even some more advanced technology to help them find their way home?

    A shake down flight can be a gateway to see how the players interact .


    The hardest part is thinking up the adventure . You can take ideas from your favor Show and crossing it over to star trek .


    The vulcan and earth starflleet are training together . Maybe playing out a first contact mission as part of the training .



    A starship grave yard find in orbit of gas gaint sevearal light years from earth . This idea is from Farcape , space 1999 and few books I have read .

    A call for help from a ship near the Sol system . The Aliens ask for help returning to their home world . This idea can lead to great reward for Earth . STar charts , new tech or the best thing of all freindship of new alien race .


    I used a flow chart to outline the adventure . It save me a lot of time of writing out parts the players never get to .

    If you do the flow chart , you should write down the main plot points that you want to get thought to the players . NPCs backgound , setting , ships ect.

    The GM screen has short forms to help you when that .

    The NX-02 could probably take up the NX-01's course before they headed into the Delphic Expanse. So you have the opportunity to run into other species. There are lots of species to meet who haven't been cast in that stronger than tritanium material known as canon. You can always use species from other sources. Being an old Starfleet Battles player, I like to use some of the species from there. You have Hydrans, Lyrans, Kzinti, the Orions. You can run into other Trek species and begin the formal first contacts with them. Try meeting the Tellarites "officially" and see how they earned their reputation of arguing for the sake of argument.
    Throw in run ins with Klingons every now and then, but not too often. Don't be too afraid to go against continuity or canon, unless you know your players will burn you at the stake for it.
    Sorry, I just know that some people are just a little touchy about it.
    Don't forget the old standby's of epidemics on colonies that need urgent supplies, troublesome passengers, and god-like aliens.
    Derelict ships and space stations are also fun places to visit. Just watch a few episodes of TOS or Enterprise to get a couple of ideas.
