Built for speed and maneuverability, the Vercaal-class light cruiser is the “smallest of the capital ships” in the Star Navy. A balanced design, the Vercaal operates primarily within a fleet or task force, although many are used as transports for high ranking Romulan officials (who do not have their own fleets).

The Prelar-class swift cruiser was built for one thing: speed. Originally built as a proof of concept for the Type 5C7 warp program, the Prelar has found a niche as a swift, armed courier. Woefully under-gunned for the Navy’s tastes, the Prelar depends on its high-warp capability to pull itself out of its tight spots.

The Prelar has become the favorite personal transport of many Romulan senators. The Praetor himself was believed to own at least nine Prelars for his personal and family use prior to the Reman incident of 2378.

The T’kairin-class generation cruiser continues the expansion of the Star Navy’s exploration arm with a design that is built from the study of the Federation’s Galaxy-class explorer. With over 300 families aboard, the T’kairin left only weeks before the Reman uprising, on a mission of exploration in the farthest reaches of unexplored space.

The T’kairin is a “twin-vessel” design, with separate command and exploratory sections. The command section houses the warp drive, cloaking device and the family units, while the explorer section contains shuttlebays, science laboratories and the majority of the ship’s cargo capacity.

The cruiser also carries a new type of Romulan weapon: the singularity torpedo. Designed from a reverse engineered quantum torpedo that the Tal Shiar recovered during the Dominon War, the singularity torpedo uses the experimental RSTX launcher. Navy engineers hope that the RST will become the preferred secondary ordinance for future warships.

The D’Theros-class light frigate was the empire’s primary escort vessel for most of the first half of the 24th Century. A small vessel that lacks a long range punch, the D’Theros is best suited to system defense and fleet picket duty.

The mid-century successor to the D’Theros-class light frigate, the Thalan-class swift cruiser more closely resembles the old Tellus bird-of-prey in its function than the D’Theros. Extremely fast, the Thalan can hold its own against other escorts, and, within a fleet setting, can harass larger ships with its capable twin RPT-1 plasma torpedoes.

The V’Gurin-class gunship was one of two competing “fighter” designs in the mid-2360s (the other being the Reman-designed Scorpion-class fighter) that would lead the Romulan Star Navy into a new direction in fleet warfare. Designed primarily to engage escorts in fleet-level engagements, the small, swift V’Gurin’s were mostly out of their element against larger Dominion warships. However, they preformed admirably against lighter Cardassian warships, prompting the Romulan High Command to consider shifting their warfighting philosophy away from their 24th Century trend of increasingly larger warbirds and back to the light, swift vessels that made the empire great.

    Prototype (beam, +2)

The Vasteme-class gunship carrier was designed and built for the express purpose of getting V’Gurin-class gunships to and from the battlespace. While capable of defending itself from attack, the Vasteme’s prime mission is to launch, recover and repair the 32 sublight gunships is carries. What it lacks in combat capability, the carrier makes up for in command and control, and the ship has been used as a fleet command ship in two battles in the Dominion War.

Despite the mixed successes of the V’Gurin during the war, the Romulan High Command has decided to continue the program, and Vastemes are now being produced at a rate of one every two years.

Very nice ST. I see you use a different version of the design history for the Singularity Torp. Interesting.

Yeah, I took some liberties with that one, since, AFAIK, the singularity torp isn't actually canon (if it is...I missed the eps that dealt with it ).

No, it's not canon. It was first listed in Way of D'era. Came about after a Romulan Admiral fired his crippled ships Quantum Singularity drive at a Taurhai vessel destroying the enemy. According to LUG unlike the Federation warp drive eject system that drops the core out the bottom of the ship, the Romulan system ejects it up and forward, taking the enemy with it when it goes. The whole Pricept of Denial thing.
