Here in Montreal we're fine. But this reminds me of the big ice storm of '98- I almost died when a huge block of ice fell on the sidewalk a few feet away from me. Anyways, that was quite something back then; most of my relatives lived for 2 weeks without power... while I hid away at my gf's house which still had power and we played Nintendo.

I must admit that for a micro-second the first thought that hit me upon hearing of this was 'terror-related' but 'thankfully' it ain't so. I sure hope that the officials in charge have taken the right steos to prevent such acts, as we can see how a simple accident such as this one can cause all kinds of problems.

Got my power back about 11am this morning. Thanks to the lack of light pollution, it was great to look up in the sky and see Stars!

We had a bad couple of days here outside of Detroit.

I was at work when - at roughly 4:15p - everything flickered and then went off altogether. We ended up sleeping on the couches in the basement because it was so goddamned hot and humid upstairs; even the dogs and the cat were miserable.

We were without electricity or safe-to-drink water until about 6:20p Friday. Large parts of the city are still SOL as far as electricity and running water.

The worst part was that my car was out of gas and none of the stations within ten miles had electricity to pump gas OR they had lines that were like a mile and a half long. One of the medics that my wife works with was nice enough to fill a five-gallon tank when he filled his ambulance and send it home with her.

Of course, after we drove to the next city over that had power and then returned home with batteries and candles, the power had been restored (not that I'm complaining, mind you!).

This wasn't nearly as bad as the outage we had locally about six years ago when we were without power for a week. That really sucked.

But the Detroit area suburbs are (I believe) more or less up and running again, so I can watch Teen Titans tonight and not have to drive 45 minutes to stay at my Dad's house.

Unlike qerlin, I for one am willing to pay more taxes to make sure that this kind of thing doesn't happen again. I'm sick of losing power for a couple of days at a time three or four times a year, particularly when the technology and infrastructure possibilities exist to prevent it.

You know, it was those darn Buckeyes that are responsible for me missing <i>Queer Eye for the Straight Guy</i>. Damn those Ohioans... DAMN THEM!

I agree with JonA. Without trying to start a Flame War The whole event was quite the Joke at least Down Under.

A 'simple' electrical accident brings a fair chunk of the Eastern Seaboard of a SuperGiant Nation to its knees. That tech must really outta date then.

Also why would Canada even be relying on the US for Power even if its only a small area of the nation? Couldn't the US if it amused them, dictate terms to East Canada?

Anyways glad things are getting back to normal over there.
