I'm about to start a campaign w/out the NG. Am I in way over my head?

'fraid so. Be careful.
...sigh. You can run an adventure with the PG. I managed it because we just didn't have the NG for the first little while. It's doable, but you're better off with at least the NG.

I had to make a choice, due to my overall financial situation, and ordered the NG first. Did I interpret your post correctly, that with the NG it will be at least for starters possible to begin a campaign?
Cheers, Nico
I would have said that it was pretty hard to run a game with out at least both of these products.
The Players guide has all of the essential character creation processes, skills, backgrounds and some of the equiptment you will need.
The Narators guide has rules for running the game, extensive space combat (and ship stat/creation rules) and it also has a sample of established characters to look over and compare (as well as 3 new bonus species profiles)
I would find it hard to run any sort of adventure without both of these books, though in a pinch the players guide is the more essential - as it does contain some base rules - and a game without characters is pointless!

Okay. I think I'll have to stretch my financial bounds and get my own PG asap.
I think you have a valid point: without characters there is little sense in any game.
Thanks for the pointing.
Nico
Hmmm... I'll need to stretch what I've got... there's no way I can get the NG before my game (tues), but I've already run a decent test-run with just the PG. Ah well. I'll let you all know how it goes.
You NEED the PG to run, without a shadow of a doubt. It has all the core rules and information that's essential to running the game.
The NG is almost as essential... it has all the starship creation/combat rules, and good tips on how to actually narrate.

I can deal without the ship combat stuff. I wasn't planning on using that anyway. But I guess I will order the NG as soon as funds allow.
BTW, are the Romulans one the bonus races?
Andorians, Orions, and Romulans, so you're in luck.
