What do I need to play CODA-Trek

    Hey there...

I just recently ordered my copy of the NG. It hasn't been shipped to me as yet. My local retailer doesn't have a copy so I have to rely on amazon to get my copy. Now I have been gone a while from RPGs and looking through the various posts found here on the boards I started to wonder, what stuff will I need to begin playing DecTrek. Will the pair of PG and NG be basicly enough to start of or do I need some other d20-book???

I don't have any real hands-on experience with d20 systems and have been surfing the web and have found hints that Stargate RPG is not playable without some basic rule book.

Could someone please give me a short and friedly :-) overview about the "new" system?

I apologise if this has been asked (too) often and has become an enoyance already. I'd appriciate any answer you might be willing to give.

    Thanks, Nico

My group has been playing for some time now and the only books we really needed were the PG and the NG. I have all books published so far except for Creatures but the 2 first books are enough to get started. If you want to have Jem'Hadar and space battles against Dominion ships in your game, as I intend to, you will need Aliens and Starships as well. If you have some basic knowledge about Star Trek you will probably have no use for the Starfleet Operations Manual ( I didn't ).

And by the way, decipher uses its own game mechanics called the CODA system. It certainly isn't D20 but if you know how to play D20 you should have no problems playing CODA.

First, there are no class levels in Coda. Experience allows you to boost everything you wish. Second, every skill, including fighting skills, are based on one of 6 (or 7 if you're a telepath) attributes. Every time you try to perform an action the Narrator/GM determines a target number (TN) and you roll 2d6. Then you add your skill level and attribute modifier and if the total is equal or above the TN you have succeeded.

I think I'll get my hands on the PG, NG and Starships and then see what the future brings.

    So no d20 involved?

CODA is a d6 system, although it plays a lot (I think better) like the d20 system. The rules are logical and if you have a PG and NG you will be able to run the game without a problem.

We are about to start a new series using the coda rules and I could not help but notice how much like the d20 system it is.
