    Here might be an easy way to grasp the difference using a High School football team

    Officers
    Head Coach = Captain
    Assistent Coach = Lieutenant

    Enlisted
    Team Captain = 1st Sergeant
    Seniors = Sergeant
    Juniors = Corporals
    Sophmores = Privates
    Draftsmen in Training

    Thanks for the info and the suggestion about the book, Eric, I will see if I can pick up a copy at lunch today.

    Talking

    Federation Rapid Response Team = F.R.R.T. = REEEEEEEALY bad acronym. Trust me.
    A brave little theory, and actually quite coherent for a system of five or seven dimensions -- if only we lived in one.

    Starfleet tends to be very officer heavy, about 40% I think. But ground forces will probably be different. In Prime Directive, a Prime Team (basicly an RRT) had about 6 members, of course the mandatory positions/character stereotypes are; the veteran officer (cmmdr or major), tough senior NCO(Sgt. Maj. or Master Chief), a medic, and heavy weapons, a couple of junior officers and a couple of junior NCOs. Usually no ensigns or privates. In regular ground forces you'd probably see more privates and ens./2LTs.
