Exclamation Spiffy electronic Original Series phaser!

I was browsing the toy aisles at Meijer in the middle of the night, and came across an Original Series phaser with a complete battery of electronic sounds (taken from Original Series sound effects, no less). There are four distinct settings: stun, kill, torch and disrupt. It can also be set to overload (it makes a "build-up" sound, then an explosion sound), and the Type 1 "holdout phaser" separates from the Type 2 pistol. Art Asylum, the company which manufactures them, also does a Movie Era Enterprise with numerous sound effects as well, and a series of action figures.

    Very cool, all in all.

I have one on my desk here. I picked it up at Memorabilia in Birmingham a few weeks back and I can't speak highly enough of it. Art Asylum have really done a job on it. It's far better than anything Playmates did - and more accurate too. I have Art Asylum's 1701-A model too and that's equally superb. Highly recommended.

I like it except for one thing.

The screw that holds the battery cover on is screwed in so tight that I've nearly stripped the thing trying to get it out to change the batteries.
