An old pact between Umbar and Belfalas, how could it be plausible?

    Hello,

I am in the process on working on a scenario about the abdunction of Ivriniel (the daughter of the Prince of Dol Amroth) and the Ship's prince. And I thought about a "dark pact" forgotten in the mists of time between Umbar and the Numenorean dominions of Belfalas (Pelargir).

Umbar is made as a great fortress in SA 2280
Pelargir is built in SA 2350.
Linhir was built in SA 3377.
Lond Ernil is built in TA 830.

Pelargir was ruled by Imrazôr, the former captain of the Venturers, and his descendant is Edhelion, later the First Prince of Belfalas, a title granted by Elendil in fear of an alliance between the recalcitrant members of the Pelargirean League and Edhelion's sons in Umbar, Herumor and Fuinur. In 3400, Fuinur sends an embassy to Isildur & Anarion, declaring his independance from their rule, and advocating a peaceful coexistence between Gondor, Umbar and Harad.

There is indeed a dark link between Umbar and Gondor, the renegades sons of Edhelion, the first Prince of Belfalas who betrayed their country for Sauron and participated into the Last Alliance. But how could I make a link with present Belfalas and Umbar (meaning a few decades before the war of the ring) ?

If there is a pact between Umbar and some "recalcitrant members" of the once members of the Pelargirean League, the pact had to be forged during Fuinur's visit in Gondor in SA 3400. But what could be the terms of this pact, how the pact could have been forgotten for several centuries, and why the pact could be revived before the war of the ring ?

But Umbar is the haven of the Black Numenoreans, and Lond Ernil is a city of Faithfuls. So there is a clear opposition between these two cities. Only during the Kin-strife, Lond Ernil (or the Prince of Belfalas) remained neutral during the conflict between Castamir and Eldacar

The House of Edhelion (or the House of the First Prince of Belfalas)ruled Belfalas until TA 2004, when the last heir of Edhelion died, and replaced by the Second House, appointed by King Earnil of Gondor. May be this replacement could be the cause of the pact revival, with Umbar claiming the inheritance of Belfalas, through the claim of Herumor ?

And, how the abdunction of Ivriniel, and the Ship's Prince could force Dol Amroth to neutrality ? The Karma of Aldarion is no more in possession of the House of Dol Amroth, as it is guessed that the Karma is now is in the vaults of Barad-dûr. Umbar could claim to have the Karma, which could be a sufficient reason of help from the Southerner Black Numenoreans against Gondor.

    So, in brief :

    - the dark secret of Belfalas : this is the tale of Herumor & Fuinur, the loss once again of the Karma of Aldarion , could there be more dark secrets in Belfalas, those who distrust the Elves, a community of merchants who are not so OK with the policy of the Prince ...
    - the forgotten pact : a pact between renegades of Edhelion's line and Umbar ?
    - the help of Southerners :may be through the abduction of a lady, of the ship's prince, and a rumour of the Karma in Umbar.

Any ideas to give more flesh to the dark pact, the dark link between Pelargir/Lond Ernil and Umbar ?

    Thanks in advance,

    Eric

This is some interesting stuff to say the least

As I said over on the Decipher boards, this has inspired me to include a scheme by the Morgothians to marry a Southron Princess from Far Harad to the King of the reunited Kingdom so that they can get control of Umbar
