Im looking for mini's

I'm looking to buy some mini's for my adventures but dont know where to go. I dont want any specific mini's (gandalf, frodo, Aragorn, etc.), I plan on using characters me and my adventurers create. Does anybody know of a site to get good mini's? I'm looking for Orcs, Elves, Men, Wizards, Dwarves, and just about every other race. Thanks.

They're not specifically Middle Earth minis, but I really like the ones Reaper makes. They're cheaper than a lot of the other brands, too.

There's a couple of more links there to decent mini manufacturers.

www.theonering.net also has links to some new LOTR minis that are coming out. Don't remember the brand name, though.

Sabertooth Games is the company that is making these. Are they a subsidiary for GW?

I saw these figures at Origins.

The good:
1) In general these figures look ncie.

The bad:
1) It's a COLLECTABLE miniatures game, so I don't think you can buy the specific figures you want.
2) The figures are BIG (35-40mm?), so I can't use any of my existing miniature alongside them.

Yep Sabertooth was brought by GW, just after they started making the 40k TCG about 18 months back iirc.

Chello!

I second (third) the Reaper vote. Their rangers, e;ves, and women look really good. They have a Tolkien, or maybe just a general Eurocentric, feel that is lacking in most of the art of DnD 3.0/.5 these days.

reapermini.com .....

Is the best site I have found. Others are very good as well but Reapermini has won my business.

the GW minis are much more Tolkienish than reapers, we use them in our rpg.

Games Workshop

Games Workshop is now not only producing movie related mins, but also book related mins as well, which is GREAT. You have to check out Games Worshop and take a look at the Shadow and Flame release!

There are lots of GW LotR minis besides the "named" characters. Generic Elves, Dwarves, Rangers, Riders, you name it. Too, you can always adopt one of the many versions of the named characters for your own. I mean, there's like four different models (currently) of Legolas. Find one you like and paint his hair brown or black. Voila! He's your character now!

Reaper is probably your best bet for minis matching the scale of the GW models, if you'll be mixing them in the same game. You can also find some excellent Wood Elves in the GW Warhammer line. Occasionally you can find a nice Elf in the GW Mordheim line as well.

The D&D Chainmail minis are too stylized, IMO, especially if your mixing them with GW and Reaper minis, which are astonishingly realistic in design and proportion. I did however find an excellent dire boar from that line which makes a great LotR "original" beastie.

The Sabretooth minis are not very impressive IMO, not nearly as nice as the GWs. 'Course, they'll be a lot cheaper!

Also, the Mithril line used to be the only game in town when it came to LotR minis. But IMO, they can't hold a candle to the GW for realism and detail.
I would probably be an avid collecter of the Mithrils if they still had the monopoly. But GW changed everything. Now I own all the GW minis instead (that's right all of them!), although the "Shadow and Flame" set is suppossed to hit the stores tomorrow. Lots of new dwarves! Woohoo!

Stick with the lines I mentioned above and you have hundreds and hundreds of models to choose from.

Check out Mithril Miniatures at http://www.mithril.ie

Excellent workmanship, subject matter pertaining directly to Middle-earth, and damned good customer service. One downside - they're in Ireland. Your FLGS rarely will carry these figs, but it's often worth it to pay for shipping. Yes. They are THAT good.

I had a bunch of Mithril minis from like 12 years ago or so. They were really nice. Packaged with like a light grey or off-white undercoat, and they took paint really well.

I used their minis even before I had ever read LOTR. So my Boromir ended up as some stock soldier, and Celeborn and Galadriel were a prince and princess. It was entertaining.
