    I am such a MORON!!

I could probably qualify as the biggest one in history at this point.
I made a file to print that contained various login/passwords to sites and account #s to my bills so that I would have all this in one easy place.
Now I'm setting around tonight downloading some stuff of of kazaa and do I see but that file having been downloaded from my computer.
The line to declare me a complete moron begins on the right I might even have refreshments.

Yeah...that qualifies. Change the passwords, man...fast!
"War is an ugly thing but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feelings which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

Excuse my denseness, but I just want to make sure I understand. You created a file to contain all your passwords, and it was downloaded to Kazaa? So, now others can upload all your passwords?

Do I have this right? If so what is this Kazaa's address, and what do you have of interest on your computer?

The moral of this story is:

When using file-sharing programs (Kazaa, WinMX) make sure you know what directory (or directories) is being shared - then make sure you never store anything personal or imporant in those directories.

My advice is to share only one directory where you keep material you want others to have access to.

I'm not so sure such restrictions are really workable. I know that back in the Napster days, even though I told the software only to allow access to certain directories, it made every audio file on my system available, regardless of which directory it's in. If you are using a file-sharing system, nothing is safe - period.

<outside voice> Dude, you said that out loud.
    <inside voice> I did?
    <outside voice> Yeah.
    <inside voice> Damn.

I imagine that the smiting will commence any time now...
