Since I just started out on the adventure with LUGTrek - what was wrong with the original SRM for the Romulans? Or at least I think I have one...don't I? What needs to be changed? I have never used SD so far since I only played ST on conventions and there was neither need nor time for it, but I shurely will quite soon. Are there any big bugs into the system that still need consideration or is it usable "as is" for the standard not-so-very-much-into-this-trek-stuff user?

Besides this I need to say two things that I hope the right persons get to read:

First of all to all former LUG authors:
you were gorgeous guys! When I first saw the ST books on he shelf a couple of years ago I thought: >now that is stupid and definately only to make much money - having one rulebook for each series!<
And actually though I always watched ST on TV, I've never been a fan of it. Then I started collecting RPGs like collectors do, I DS-9 appeared on TV and instantly got me hooked. It was not before another 2 or 3 years until I bought my first LUG ST book and was amazed how well researched they were and the high quality standard they had.
It took me about a year to get EVERYTHING vom LUG - mostly through chanels in the US. I was even more glad when I got the DUNE Corebook! Man...that is a game! I really love it! Got it for 150 USD back then and have seen two more on the net at titan games for 250 USD+ nowadays...
It's such a shame that you went out of business...Due to your works ST has become a real gaming passion for me and I try to hold up the candle of LUGTrek! And LUGDune!

    Second thing to Steve Long:
You are my personel RPG hero/pope/saviour/thingything whatsoever! I virtually have devoured every single book that I bought that you wrote/edited/...
It seems that the former LUG staff wasn't able to keep up the high quality standards when they transfered to DEC, without you. The new game is...well..the rules are very good, especially for LotR, but need a mayor revision and tons of work. And besides that - the contents of the book are merely what I call "typically american" (no offense please!!!!!) today: bigger-more colorful-heavier-more powerful but less valuable due to bad content, totally mixed up, only pretty pictures....I guess you know what I mean.
I even started buying the Fantasy Hero 5th ED books after I realized they where done by yourself!!! Great work! Love them! I only had 1st and 2nd ED so far to play the old Shadow World modules with it but the move on to 5th ED was worth the effort!
I hope you will be around the gaming industry for another long years! Keep up the excellent work!
Probably one day...all the LUG staff might reasamble and do a revision of LUGTrek and even publish all of the DUNE stuff???

btw...does anyone know if there is any unpublished Dune-stuff around?

Yeah, there hasn't been a Romulan SRM since the FASA Days.

And obviously you couldn't use the FASA book with LUG's system, without a lot of conversion -- and that's if there's no copyright questions.

So better a SRM that fits with the newer system.

Now, if you want to know just what's so great about that... You'll just have to check out the already-extant pdf files of the Federation, Cardassian, and Klingon SRM's. And Spacedock... and The Dominion War Sourcebook...

They are, to use the one word of German I know, uber.

(Yeh, there should be an umlaut there. I know. But I never remember the codes to make them.)

Oh my, you are right...I got it mixed up in my memory. I thought there was already a Rom. SRM but that was due to the space dock book, the klingons, the federation and it seemed logical to have the romulans too...instead it was the cardassians...ec.

I'm sorry for this amount of confusion.

And what I wanted to know why the SD stuff is so great is actually why you use it?! What is your personal experience with it? Do you have so many spacebatttles that you have use for such detailed rules? Up to now I used spacebattles only for dramatic effect and in that way the basic rules in the corebooks where sufficient. But now that we will be playing more often and complete campaigns, I guess I'll need to make use of the SD stuff. So that's why I'm interested in your personal experience with it.
So far I'm quite sure the rules are great - no doubt of that!

Well to be honest, when I have a space battle I play it for drama, action and tension, and I generally ignore the "numbers rules" in favor of pure storytelling. My players rarely roll for anything.

I love the SRMs because I am a diehard Ship Geek. I use them for the names and the numbers and the classes and the styles more than anything else. I use some of the ship stats in the storytelling, but that's about it.

Only 'gripe' I have is that I wish they were illustrated. But some of the ships have been drawn / extrapolated by other folks ( like TFVanguard, to name only one), and I'm sure that there are many other images floating around out there in the 'design phase.'

Back when i had more time (read: didn't care about that whole edumacation thing) i was considering doing schematics in illustrator for the Romulan SRM ships and submitting them as an unofficial extra.

Hell, if i find a block of time i might try to do 3/4 views of some designs i have just for kicks. Would there be any demand for such designs anywhere?

Sure there would even be a high demand for such designs! At least in my "groups" since most of my players aren't Trek-cracks and rarely know anything else than the standard Enterprise, warbird and bird of prey designs. Showing them some 3/4 views of ships would help very much - and improve my own image, too.

btw...again a research question: does anyone know if there are "blueprints"/deckplans for the old olympus class starship (or similar vessels), and if so, where I could get them?
