    I'm philosophical about the wholr A-Rod thing, NC not having a MLB team, just several very entertaining minor league teams. I do think baseball needs a salary cap. It will create a situation like football, where literally any team has a shot a the Super Bowl when the season starts. In baseball, it's getting to be the Yankees vs. whoever can win the NL pennant. By the way, after lulling you to sleep with baseball talk, I win.

    Just about....while the Yankee payroll may not guarantee the "Candystripers" a berth in the Fall Classic, they've definitely found their way into the ALCS a lot more than any other club in the last 10 years.

    And with Georgie Porgie spending $188M this year in payroll, the majors need a salary cap.....not that the owners would be able to actually negotiate their way out of a paper bag against the union.

    The problem with a salary cap is twofold: (1) the owners long ago spent all their trust doing things like collusion, and therefore the players don't believe anything they say, and (2) a salary cap to keep the game interesting (and therefore alive) benefits the *next* generation of players and beyond -- and does not benefit the current generation, who therefore has *no* interest in supporting it.

    And the problem with the rest of *you* is that you're eating my dust as I race away with the trophy!

    You're right, Fesarius. Problem #2 is passable (the NFL was able to do it), but the huge deficit in trust between the union and the owners is almost impossible to overcome.
