A brave little theory, and actually quite coherent for a system of five or seven dimensions -- if only we lived in one.

Hey, you've got a big 20" ... main gun.
So you don't need to win.
So I will!
Actually, the Iowa only has 9 16" guns. I think the Yamato only had 18" guns. The Bismarck only carried 15" guns.
To date I don't think any ship has fielded a 20" gun.

My bad (memory). It is 16" guns.
Yeah, the modern Navy is based around the carrier group for the most part -- because you can "project power" with a carrier like you can't, really, with other ships.
The advent of the cruise missile and other technologies which facilitate naval based strike missions make change this picture again. Much smaller and less vulnerable ships can carry such ordinance.
I think the carrier will always be vitally important, unless something changes the picture so radically as to eliminate the need for air supremacy.

Whats the difference between the army and the cub scouts?
Cub scouts don't have heavy artillery.
We have all your working biros and we're not afraid to use them.
Leave a box of used postit notes and a box of paperclips inside the filling cabinet and things won't get nasty.

I attended the same broadcasting school as the real Cronaur. It was interesting to see him as he was in the early 90s...balding, with a Gorkon-like beard.Originally posted by JonA

Obviously, he wasn't as nearly gifted as Robin made him out to be...but he was still pretty funny.
