Thread: Is the TrekRPG.net mailing list down?

  1. #1

Cool Is the TrekRPG.net mailing list down?

I haven't gotten anything for over a week on the list and just wondered if it's having trouble. I sent a test message and it neither bounced nor came back through the list. Anyone know what's up?

Over teh past week or week and a half, I've noticed that it has taken longer and longer for my copy of a message that I sent to get returned to me. I wonder if that is part of the same problem. I'll try submitting something myself.

    Shouldn't it be trekrpg@rpg.net?

I need to state, with the utmost emphasis, that TrekRPGNet (this web site) has NO affiliation with the “trekrpg” mailing list run by RPG.net.

We never were affiliated, even though the names sound very close.

While many of the participants of the “trekrpg” mailing list may frequent this site, TrekRPGNet does not support or provide technical support for the list. You might want to contact RPG.net for that.

    Cool

Ah, ok. I never spotted the difference between trekrpg.net and trekrpg@rpg.net. It was just a natural assumption since I singed up from this web page. Sorry.

Don't worry about it. I just needed to make that clear since:

    1) it happens a lot
    2) RPG.net gave me some legal hassles over this very issue in the past. I am "required" to tell people of our non-affiliation or risk their wrath.

    Cool

I'd tell 'em to kiss my... but then again, who's getting more free publicity? Them, I'd say. They should be paying you! Shoot, if I were you I'd just go ahead and set up my own list and wipe them from the website. You know just about everyone on it, so you could easily let em know to sign up over here instead. Heh, I guess I have a vindictive streak I didn't know about!

I believe the word your looking for here is...

    "D'OH!"

I tried sending out a couple of e-mails to trekrpg@rpg.net, and each time, I get a message back saying it couldn't be sent to trekrpg@trekrpg.net. I have no idea why Outlook Express seems to be changing the name... I've never had trouble with it before.

It still doesn't explain why I haven't received anything from the list in about two weeks, though.

    Penta...

There's no such thing as "trekrpg.com." The trekrpg mailing list address is trekrpg@rpg.net. Don's address is trekrpg@trekrpg.net. Note that they're both ".net" addresses, not ".com" addresses. Note also that Don has stated repeatedly (probably until he's blue in the face) that he has no affiliation with the list, so mailing trekrpg@trekrpg.net won'y get you any satisfaction...

"What I left out. It WAS sent to trekrpg@rpg.net...."

...and it bounced with "550 trekrpg@trekrpg.com... Host unknown (Name server: trekrpg.com: host not found)"? That's really bizarre. Very weird.
