    Making Trek Maps

Having had not much time to do any Trek Cartography or Trek related itself in the last 6mths. I was wondering what people would like to see on my map website.

I've still got to finish that star index for 'StarCharts' yet for instance and some of those essays as well.

Any thoughts? Since i'm on holidays now and looking to do some mapping

Does it have to be star maps?

I'd love to see planetary atlases

    Quo'nos
    Cardassia
    Bajor
    Romulus
    Remus
    Betazed
    Vulcan

All the famous worlds and we haven't a clue as to what's there and where abouts.

System maps would be nice too.

To nitpick, it is Qo'noS in Klingon, or Kronos in English, but never Quo'nos.

That aside, I'd love to see planetary atlases too!

What about a Chi-factor map? The main trade routes from star charts could serve as a basis and the rest should be easy to make up.

    Hi Sig

Maybe you could try to combine the Alpha and Beta Quadrant maps into one piece with the extended Klingon map. Maybe merge all four Federation foldouts with the Romulan map and the other Klingon map. Maybe enlarge the locator maps and add detail. Maybe combine the first three years of Voyager's journey and fill in somwe of the surrounding space. Maybe the same with the last year and a half. Maybe shrink the first three years and remove the less important details. Maybe add details to Breen and Tholian space. Maybe assign some stars to sectors.

I have done much of this already. The four big maps from StarCharts, with a number of the detailed maps patched in. Took a long time. Problem is, it's a frickin' huge file, so I haven't done much with it lately. I'm not even sure how to share it. The smallest i can get it is still in the tens of megs. I'm open to suggestions.

I didn't bother with the Voyager stuff.

Hey, if anyone REALLY wants a copy, I guess you could PM me and send me $ for postage. I have a fast cd burner.

    Zip it.

We have all your working biros and we're not afraid to use them.

Leave a box of used postit notes and a box of paperclips inside the filling cabinet and things won't get nasty.

Perhaps you could try and isolate out all of the stars from the bacground, and then convert it to a vector format, such as Flash - then if you blur out all of the stars and cut out the nebulas (and political divisions) you could re apply them - should get your file size down alot - at the cost of a llot of work - on the plus side you could then zoom in and drag it round inside a flash page
