    Buying new skills

    Hi all,

I'm learning the advancements rules, and in the Player Guide (p 153) there is the table of the advancement picks. I see how to increase a skill, but I'm confused about getting a new one.

Do you spend 1 pick to get a new professional skill and 2 picks to get a new non professional skill ?

    Thanks

Yes I believe that's it, I don't recall there being any special limitation on starting skills from scratch.

It also only costs 2 points for a specialisation (each) at any level of skill - which gives you a +2 bonus to that speciality roll.

That's a handy way to get a decent level in a skill from nothing - because you can get +3 with 2 picks

Actually it only costs 1 Adv Pick for a specialty. The restriction on spending Adv Picks on skills, to the best of my knowledge, is that it is only on ranks, it doesn't pertain to specialties.

The only other limitation, which affects all skills (old and new), is that you may only improve your professional skills by 2 ranks, and your non-professional skills by 1 rank, in any single advancement.
