    Question Federation maps

Hello all. I was wondering if there are any maps of Federation space that show where in relation are certain other areas such as the Draconis Outback, The Kellinan reach area {from ST:DS9 Core Book for the Icon System} the Son'a territories and the planet Baku just to name some of them.

Well, the "Star Trek Maps" book that came out not too long ago has all this and a lot more. You should be able to find it at most bookstores.

    It's quite well done.

Highlights include color maps of all the quadrants, descriptions of the planetary classifications, descriptions of the sector nomenclature, as well as a tactical charts of the Dominion War, maps of Voyager's path, maps of Enterprises' (from the current Series) path, and many other details.

Obsessive geek that I am, I have found one or two minor errors, here and there. But considering how many writers have worked in the Trek universe over how many years, Mandel did and excellent job.

I feel this book is well worth the $18 price tag.

And no, I didn't write any of it.

The Draconis outback and the kelinan reach are both (I believe) Non canon, so you aren't likelly to find either of them on a starchart. However with that book you can approximate where they are from their respective descriptions. I.e. the kelinan Reach is roughly above Tholian space (on that map!) towards (True) Rigel - or in otherwords Rimward.

    Federation Maps

The Draconis Outback was mentioned in the episode "The Advesary" of DS 9 if I am not mistaken. In which Odo killed the Ambassador who was a Changling spy.

The Draconis Outback and the Kellinan Reach are not in Mandel's Star Charts, but you can see where the Draconis constellation is. You can see what direction it is in and as for distance, maybe it's between the Ferengi and the Tzankethi. The Draconis Outback being Canon is news to me. I missed a lot of DS9. The Son'a and the Baku are shown. $18 is a very good price for this book.

I use the Star Trek Star Charts book as my official "map" for the game but have found numerous contradictions in the distances at which the ships cover at warp speeds after reading some interesting info at the DITI website by Gram Kennedy under the Articles page look for "Warp Speed Anomalies". I have decided that to correct these "errors" I needed to find a way to use the available information I had and just show it in a new light. So this what I did to correct the flaws, I substitute the major space lane (the green route on the political maps) in the star charts book as a "Subspace Corridor" from the NG pg. 161 and put it a mere light-year from earth so that any star ship as to travel anly a light year then get in this groove in subspace and get swept along at 40 lightyears a minute until they drop outta warp or change course out of the corridor. using this little trick makes all the mistakes go away. For example Star Trek V can be explained because the corridor runs right by Nimbus so the 6.7 hour trip covering 16,080 light-years to the center of the galaxy can be explained. Also since the corridor exsists at only that point it is a light-year wide but tens of thousands of ly long. it can still make the galaxy a big place.
